WASHINGTONVILLE — Local police are investigating the Wednesday drowning death of a young child.

A news release from the Washingtonville Police Department states that police and EMS personnel responded at about 10 a.m. to the Washingtonville Apartments in the 100 block of Chris Avenue.

The report states that police Chief Ken Faust was the first on scene, along with Perry Township EMS, who performed CPR on a 1-year-old boy. The child was taken to Salem Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Green Township and Columbiana EMS also responded.

The news release states that the death remains under investigation and police will provide no further information at this time.
