Bridge deck work
Old State Route 45/CR448A in Madison Township will be closed to all traffic from state Route 518 south to state Route 45 beginning April 28 for a bridge deck replacement. Local access will be either side of the project. The completion date is May 6. Project cost is $111,111.11 through Ohio Public Works Commission and local funds. Shook Company LLC of Canfield is the contractor.
SR 164 chip and seal
Work will begin on April 27 to chip seal state Route 164 from Bergholz in Jefferson County through Carroll County, ending in Salineville. Traffic will be maintained with flaggers. The completion date is Sept. 30.
SR 45 chip and seal
Work will begin May 1 on a project to chip seal eight miles of state Route 45 from state Route 7 to U.S. Route 30 and a section of state Route 39 from state Route 7 to just south of West Street in Wellsville. Traffic will be maintained with flaggers. The completion date is Sept. 30.
Open house
The Salem Historical Society will host a free Open House to celebrate the Grand Opening of its 2026 tour season on Sunday, May 3 from 1 to 4 p.m. The event will feature two special exhibits for visitors to enjoy. “Salem 250” will showcase the contents of the time capsule buried at Liberty Centre in 1976, along with highlights from the community’s Bicentennial celebrations. In addition, attendees will be the first to view a newly commissioned painting by local artist Amanda Huk, depicting the interior of the historic Grand Opera House/Grand Theatre. Guests can also enjoy light refreshments during the event. The society’s gift shop will be open, offering a variety of 2026 commemorative items. Visitors should enter at 208 S. Broadway Ave., where additional tours will also be available. The open house is free and open to the public.
Banquet in Salem
The Dine in or Drive Thru Banquet in Salem from 5 p.m. until the food is gone Monday at the Salem Memorial Building will be sponsored by Friends of the Banquet. The menu will include sloppy joe’s, augratin potatoes, applesauce, fresh vegetables and fruit, and peaches. Dine in will park in designated area behind the building and proceed to front door. Drive thru will line up in lot behind the building; one meal per individuals in the vehicle. No parking in the library lot. Alpha Iota DKG
NEW WATERFORD – The April meeting of the Alpha Iota Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Honorary was held at the New Waterford United Methodist Church. Nancy Dicken provided the invocation. Members enjoyed a covered-dish dinner.
President Barb Lipp conducted the business meeting. Amy Johnson’s minutes and Sharon Walker’s treasurer’s report were approved as presented.
The Nominating Committee presented a slate of officer candidates. Those voted in are President Pam Todd, Vice President Ann Hall, Recording Secretary Amy Johnson, Corresponding Secretary Sandy Forbes and Treasurer Sharon Walker.
Discussion was held about changing the DKG By-Laws in regard to scholarship or grant requirements. Members then enjoyed a variety of games.
Reminder: Annual dues must be paid by the May meeting.
The next meeting will be held in East Liverpool at Chef Ray’s Restaurant on Saturday, May 2 at 10 a.m. There will be a necrology service, installation of officers and a salute to DKG’s Founders’ Day.
Choose to Lose
Choose To Lose Group met at Boyce Church April 21 with leader Penny Perorazio presiding. The meeting opened up with the pledge of allegiance followed by the CTLG roll call.
Pam Fouse gave the secretary’s report and Cassie Stephens gave the treasurer’s report. Both were approved as read. Perorazio was the CTLG biggest loser. Perorazio won the food journals, dimes were held over, and Stephens won the Share The Blessing.
The no no is chocolate.
Winners of the No Fibbing Contest are Jean Ferrebee, Stephens, Pat Heacock, JoAnn Beresford, Wanda Price, Tammy Heddelston, Perorazio and Fouse. New numbers were drawn for the following week #2.
Carolyn Hager, Tassy Everett and Perorazio got to put A Pig In The Pen.
Hager and Perorazio had three weeks weight loss.
Everett shared information about The Value of Drinking Taheebo Tea.
There were three birthdays this month: Beresford, Heacock and Jackie Wilson. The group celebrated at JP’S Pizzeria and Grill.
Perorazio closed the meeting with Prayer requests followed by the Lord’s prayer. New and former members are always welcome.
