Columbiana County Park District seeking submissions for photo contest
LISBON — The Columbiana County Park District is looking for photographers, both children and adults, to capture the essence of the district’s parks and submit their work for a photo contest, with May 31 the deadline to submit photos.
Park district board member Megan McMaster updated her fellow board members on the details during their meeting Wednesday.
Photos submitted must be dated within the year of submission for judging and must be taken on-site at the Little Beaver Creek Greenway Trail, Scenic Vista Park, Hellbender Bluff Park. Logtown Stone Quarry Park or the Supreme Court Rock and be the photographer’s original photo. The photographer must submit their name and phone number on the back of each photo, which must be printed as size 5-inch by 7-inch or 8-inch by 10-inch. Photos are not returnable and more than one photo can be submitted.
Awards will be presented in three categories, adult, high school or youth up to eighth grade, for first, second and third place. The photos will be displayed at the park district’s Columbiana County Fair booth.
Photos may be submitted at the park district office, 130 W. Maple St., Lisbon or to a board member.
McMaster also passed out copies of the park districts’ program and events calendar, suggesting that residents and visitors also check the Facebook page where she’ll be updating the programs as more are planned. Some of April’s events include the Double Trouble disc golf tournament at Scenic Vista on Sunday, a bike ride from Lisbon to Teegarden on April 24, the Coal Country Roubaix bike race at 9 a.m. April 25 and a Hellbender Bluff hike at 9 a.m. April 25.
Other events include: wildflower hike, 5:30 p.m. May 5, Hellbender; helmet giveaway at Leetonia trailhead mile marker 10 and Pl&W train depot in Lisbon at 10 a.m. May 9; star gazing at Scenic Vista with the Mahoning Valley Astronomical Society dusk to 10:30 p.m. May 16; run with board members, 6 p.m. June 1 Leetonia Trailhead mile marker 10; Raptor Hallow, 6 p.m. June 4, Scenic Vista; Bee Class-how to attract pollinators, with Susan Nutter, 6:30 p.m., Scenic Vista; run with board members, 6 p.m. July 6, Franklin Square trailhead; chalk the trail, all day, July 11 and 12; all of July, Leetonia Library book walk at Washington Street Greenway trailhead; run with board members,
6 p.m. Aug. 3, Lisbon mile marker; owl class, 6:30 p.m. Aug. 13, Franklin Square trailhead; and a full moon bike ride on Sept. 26.
Also announced was the annual Spring In Columbiana County, Ohio bicycle ride sponsored by the Outspokin Wheelmen. The ride which attracts a lot of cyclist will start at 8 a.m. May3 at the Mirror Lake Pavilion at Firestone Park in Columbiana and follow a loop which includes the Little Beaver Creek Greenway Trail.
