Cutrona bill: Name part of Route 11 after fallen trooper
State Sen. Al Cutrona, R-Canfield, introduced legislation to name a portion of state Route 11 in honor of Nicholas P. Cayton, an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper killed Oct. 16 on the highway.
Cayton, who was a trooper for 13 years, was in his cruiser with flashing lights, while assisting a truck driver, when his vehicle was hit from behind by another truck.
Cutrona said Cayton “served his state and community with pride. His unexpected passing in the line of duty broke the hearts (of) everyone who knew him. I know that this memorial will honor a great Ohioan who gave his all while serving and protecting the Valley and eastern Ohio.”
The bill seeks to name state Route 11 between U.S. Route 224 and Leffingwell Road the “Trooper Nicholas P. Cayton Memorial Highway.”
The bill was referred to the Senate Transportation Committee for consideration.
