GVFD invites community to celebrate new truck with a push-in ceremony
GLENMOOR — The Glenmoor Volunteer Fire Department is inviting the community to come celebrate the arrival of the department’s new fire truck on Oct. 2 at 6:30 p.m.
The department will host a fire truck push-in and water transfer ceremony at the station located at 16320 Annsley Rd., East Liverpool, Ohio, to celebrate the purchase of the department’s first new engine in over 30 years.
A push-in ceremony for a new truck is a long-standing tradition that allows today’s fire service members to remain connected to their roots and is a throwback to the days when fire fighters used horse drawn fire engines. With horses unable to back the carriage engines into the firehouse, firefighters would have to unharness the horses and push the engines in by hand.
A water transfer ceremony involves the transferring of the water from the old engine to the new.
“Everyone is welcome to attend and join us as we officially welcome our new apparatus,” GVFD Fire Captain Derrick Smith said.
Food and refreshments will be provided.
Parking at the station is for emergency vehicles only. All non-emergency vehicles are to park in the upper lot behind the station.
