Columbiana BOE approves roof maintenance on buildings

COLUMBIANA — School board members approved spending in excess of $20,000 for roof maintenance on two of three district buildings.

During Columbiana’s regular meeting Tuesday, the school board approved maintenance plans with Boak and Sons totaling $23,738 for work and maintenance on the roofs of both Joshua Dixon Elementary and Columbiana High schools.

There was no one in attendance for the public hearing regarding the retire-rehire of the retiring superintendent Don Mook, assistant superintendent/elementary school principal Kim Sharshan and district treasurer Cathy Davies.

Board members voted to schedule the commencement for the Class of 2026 was for Sunday, May 24, 2026.

The school district has scheduled its next board meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11 in the high school media center.

In other action, board members:

— Hired Mary Huff as a bus driver, Kelly Paloski as a cook-cashier, Elaine Tucker as a custodian.

— Added Pam Barrett and Brenda Seaman to their substitute roster.

— Accepted the resignation of assistant football coach Tim Reash effective Sept. 18, 2025.

— Accepted volunteers Wade Boley, Vickie Conrad, Stephanie Foster, Sarah Grenga, Cristina Villagomez and Nikki Kramer.

— Approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the Columbiana Education Association and district regarding the high deductible health plan and the health savings account contributions.

— Contracted with Sean Ferrall reimbursing him the IRS annual mileage rate to transport his son to Potential Development School in Youngstown until district is able to arrange him transportation via school bus.
