Stark County man facing more charges
NEW CUMBERLAND — A Stark County man, who was arrested over the weekend after a police pursuit across state lines, has a court date on his initial West Virginia charges.
However, Chester police chief Chuck Stanley said that he is looking at more since being incarcerated.
Van Keith Jones, of Massillon, is being held at the Northern Regional Jail and has racked up 26 additional Violation of a Protection Order charges from calling his ex in Marshall County jurisdiction.
Jones had been arrested Sunday night after leading a Columbiana County Sheriff’s deputy and East Liverpool police in pursuit from state Route 39 to the Chester exit right across the state line on U.S. Route 30.
His fugitive from justice charge has been transferred for resolution in Hancock County Circuit Court; however, the fleeing from police, receiving stolen property and driving while license suspended charges still are pending through Hancock County Magistrate Court.
The hearing on those three charges has been set before Magistrate Steve Svokas at 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11.
After his extradition, Jones awaits prosecution on charges that include robbery, strangulation, intimidation of a witness, theft, domestic violence and violation of a protection order.
Massillon is located approximately 70 miles away from Chester.
