HANOVERTON — Jessica Syx decided after years of personal work on her own to share it with others as part of a business model.

And that is how Animar Farms, located at 9821 Randall Road, would eventually come to be.

Six started to develop a product line of various body products in 2019, which she started selling that following year with the support of her father Lester.

In 2022 after Lester’s death, she continued working on her business, adding sourdough breads to her product line.

With an inspiration from her dad, she finally had a name for her venture. Lester had always been encourage her to “cheer up.”

Animar is the equivalent of “cheer up” in Spanish, and Syx decided it would be the perfect fit. She describes an Animar Farms’ experience with its large herb, vegetable and floral gardens as far as the eye can see as a place where one can soothe his or her soul.

Syx has converted gained knowledge from her family’s personal health crisis into what Animar represents today: her husband Craig Dunlap’s cancer battle as well as her own past reproductive issues and subsequent recovery.

The couple shares a 4-year-old daughter Harlen as well as Syx has a 17-year-old son, Evan. Craig also brings children and grandchildren from previous relationships.

“Every path we go down (in life) leads us to where we are supposed to go,” Syx adds.

Animar Farms sells vaious products at local markets within Columbiana County during the summer.

Animar Farms is a regular vendor on Saturdays at the Lisbon Farmers Market and don’t be surprised to see Animar pop up at Hanoverton Hardware when the store hosts special events or at special workshops at the Tipsy Farmer Winery.

Although she doesn’t have a physical storefront yet, Syx is hoping to add on in the future.

Her all natural, handcrafted product line includes body products, small batch fruit butters and syrups as well as organic sourdough breads and gluten free brownies — all using home-grown and local ingredients whenever possible an in season.
