The Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center will welcome Shawn Nelson for his program on Homing Pigeons for Beginners from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 12 under the pavilion. Nelson has raced pigeons for years and will be talking about how to raise them as well as race them. He will have some birds for guests to see, informational literature, and fun pages for the kids. Children attending can put their names in a jar with one being drawn to hold a pigeon and release it at the end of the program. Nelson will also be releasing a flock of birds at the end. Beginners who would like to start this activity have the chance to receive a pair of birds to start their flock. Nelson will hatch the birds and help people get set up so they are successful.
