LISBON – The non-profit Almost Perfect Foundation & Resale upscale thrift store is launching its fifth anniversary at a new and larger location. The Grand Re-Opening will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Founded and operated by Lisbon native Kristen Huston in 2020, the store has moved from its former location on South Park Avenue on the Square in Lisbon to 202 W. Lincoln Way in what is affectionately called the “Purple Building,” formerly Pilmer Auto Parts at the intersection of Went Lincoln Way and South Beaver Street.

Huston says she is thrilled with the quality of donations given to the store, which includes furniture, household goods, dinnerware, home decor, textiles and linens, jewelry, purses, books, toys, and games.

Each month, Huston donates profits to specified local non-profit charities and organizations and community causes. In its first five years of operation, Almost Perfect has donated approximately $35,000. Beneficiaries of profits have included area schools (athletic teams, science robotic team, and the art departments), county dog pound, Humane Society, Salvation Army, food pantries, Jacob’s Heart, Friends of the Park, Lepper Library, Lisbon VFD, 4-H clubs, K-9 police fund, Stage Left Theater, and Diva Donations, among others. Kris has also used profits for sponsorships, among them the Johnny Appleseed Festival, Lisbon Fireworks Fund, Lisbon Beautification Committee, and Concerts on the Square and has assisted families facing hardships.

Huston attributes the success of the store in being able to give back to the community to generous donations, loyal and new patrons, and a volunteer staff of family and friends.

Despite the overwhelming success in financial contributions to date from profits on sales, Huston says she has a passion for wanting to do even more because “there is so much need in our little village.”

“I’m hoping this is the start of a new beginning,” she says of the new, more visible location on the main route through Lisbon.

Store hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Almost Perfect also has a presence on Facebook, showcasing photos of some featured donated items.

Donations of items are accepted during normal business hours. Huston is seeking ways to increase her giving. Monetary donations (checks endorsed to Almost Perfect Foundation) are also welcome to be able to do more toward sponsorships and emergency responses, including natural disasters such as the recent floods in Texas. Starting at $2.99/week.
