Summer Reading at Lepper Library
LISBON – This month Summer Reading at Lepper Library starts June 2. Patrons are invited to join in celebrating this year’s theme Color Our World. So, this year it is all about art and color. Summer Reading is for all ages, adults to preschoolers. The finale this year is a “Gala Art Opening” at the library displaying patrons’ own tiny art masterpieces.
Children
The library has weekly programs on Mondays at 11 a.m. from June 2 to July 21. The programs are for all ages of kids and last about an hour. They are all different and hosted by one of the Columbiana County children’s librarians. They include stories and more. Read and attend programs to get Reading Dragon Cards and learn to play the card game. The schedule for June is:
June 2 – Kickoff of Color Your World with Messy Art – Joining Amber will be Barb from Warm Hearts; sign up for Summer Reading and create some messy art. Wear old clothes that can get paint on them.
June 9 – Step to the Story – by DeAnna from Salem Public Library
June 16 – Illustrate Your World – Noreen from East Palestine Memorial Public Library
June 23 – Mix It Up – Rachel from Wellsville Carnegie Public Library
June 30 – Fabricating Fables – Alex from Leetonia Community Public Library
Besides the weekly programs some other things for children in June include the Annual Story Stroll on the Columbiana County Greenway Bike Trail, near the Lisbon Trailhead from May 24 to June 2. Then it will be moved to the Lisbon Pool Exercise Trail from June 2 to June 9. The story will be “Monsters Love Color,” written and illustrated by Mark Austin.
Saturday, June 7, there will be a drop-in program between 10 a.m. to noon for all ages, called Rubber Duckorating. Participants can decorate a rubber duck with markers or decoupage.
Wednesday, June 11, at 2 p.m., join the music program for all ages by Stephanie from Cardinal Mooney Schools for Clap, Tap & Read.
Monday, June 16, at 2 p.m. and Wednesday, June 18, at 2 p.m. This is a two-part class on making a Dragon’s Eye. Local thespian and art teacher Jacob Ward will be leading this program. In the first class particpants will be creating the eye out of clay and painting it in the second class. It is open to kids 8 years old and up. Registration is required.
Teens
Colorful Cooking Summer Program by Emmalee Wince from OSU Nutrition
Wednesdays from 1-2 p.m. for ages 8-17 – (there is no class on June 11)
Join the library staff members as they explore a different color theme every week and learn about the power of food. This is a hands-on cooking program that will include nutritional facts and a tasty new recipe every session. Learn some cooking technics and healthy eating in one. There will be five sessions, each offering a different recipe. Registration is required. Sessions will be held June 4, June 18, June 25, July 9 and July 16.
Adults
For each book an adult reads, they will earn an entry ticket for a chance to win a prize. Additionally, there will be weekly reading challenges that offer opportunities to win small prizes and extra entry tickets.
Summer Concert at the Library Featuring Local Musician Brent Bregar – Friday, June 6, from 5:15 – 6 p.m. Join Brent as he invites everyone to sing along to a selection of popular songs. If the weather is nice, it will be outside, if it rains, it will be inside.
Writer’s Group – Saturday, June 7, at 2 p.m. – Fellow writers gather together and discuss writing, publishing, and grammar. New members are always welcome. To receive critiques of one’s work from fellow members, submit five pages a week in advance to circulation@lepperlibrary.org.
June Craft – Flower Pounded Tea Towel – Thursday, June 12 – Choice of 5 or 6 p.m. – Learn about the technique of flower or leaf pounding. The program will be using plant leaves to create a print on fabric. All supplies will be provided. Registration is required and sign up begins May 29.
Ceramic Class with Emily Goerig, Art Teacher at Crestview High School – Thursday, June 26, at 5:30 p.m. – Come glaze a ceramic tile. Bring creative energy while creating a one-of-a-kind tile. Participants will be introduced to resist and sgraffito glazing techniques to create a unique design on one’s bisque-fired tile. Participants will be able to pick up their tiles a week after they’ve glazed them. Registration is required.
