Leetonia BOE terminates bus driver following misconduct investigation
Results sent to prosecutor’s officer
LEETONIA — With the investigation now on its way to the Columbiana County prosecutor’s the office, charges appear to be imminent against a former village bus driver.
During the school board’s regular meeting Wednesday, Leetonia board members officially terminated Scott Andre, a bus driver who had been placed on leave several weeks ago pending an investigation into misconduct.
In Andre’s termination letter, Leetonia schools Superintendent Tony DelBoccio details the results of a Feb. 13 disciplinary hearing including Andre, the district’s director of transportation, and Andre’s union representatives.
Five of the more serious allegations included in the letter are:
— Pursuit of recently graduated females through his district employment for “inappropriate intentions;”
— Encouraging a former student under the age of 21 to partake in alcoholic beverages, which would be illegal activity;
— Corporal punishment toward riders who failed to bring their school-issued badges upon boarding his bus;
— Entering a locker room where a junior high school girl was changing despite another coach’s request not to;
— Possessing inappropriate photos of female Leetonia district staff members and sixth-grade girls on his personal cell phone.
In closing, DelBoccio informs Andre, who also was the Bears’ head softball coach,his “continued employment as a Leetonia school bus driver jeopardizes the safety and security of our students.”
The letter details 10 infractions of varying severity all together.
Leetonia Police Chief Allen Haueter said he expects supposed to meet with prosecutors over the weekend regarding the investigation and how to proceed.
Andre had been a district bus driver for nearly three years and was hired as the head softball coach in January.
