Christmas tree farms are seeing various results in sales this year. While some tree providers are seeing consistent or improved sales, others are seeing less this year.

Hozak Farms

Ellen Dillon, manager of Hozak Farms, said business has been steady and she thinks they have seen a little more customers so far this year than they saw at this point last year.

Hozak Farms offers five varieties of pre-cut and cut-your-own trees, including Fraiser Fir, Concolor Fir and Canaan. They also offer pine roping, wreaths and a gift shop with Christmas Decorations and ornaments, hot cocoa and hot cider. Food trucks are there during the weekends.

Dillon said a visit to Hozak Farms is a fun-family event where the family can take a hayride, get a Christmas tree and just make it into a fun outing.

Hozak Farms is located at 488 Anderson-Hozak Road, Clinton, Pennsylvania. They can be contacted by phone at 724-899-2400.

Times for cut-your-own trees are daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the gift shop and Christmas barn for pre-cut trees is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Iannetti’s Garden Center

Scott Weaver of Iannetti’s Garden Center said business is going good this year even though it is early in the season. Sales have been consistent with what they were at this point last year.

Iannetti’s offers pre-cut Balsam Fir trees and flocked trees with flocking available in approximately 12 different colors. Weaver describes flocked trees as a tree with fake snow on it that holds the needles on the tree, so they don’t drop. The flocking has a built-in fire retardant as well. Weaver noted that images of flocked trees are available on the business’s website at www.iannettis.com.

Iannetti’s also offers wreaths, grave pillows and their own homegrown poinsettias in a variety of sizes and colors including red, white, pink, marbled and more.

Iannetti’s Garden Center is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is located at 728 Steubenville Pike Road, Burgettstown, Pennsylvania.

They can be reached through their website or by phone at 724-729-3500.

Janoski’s Farm

Patty Janoski, owner of Janoski’s Farm, said it is hard to tell if this year’s sales are going to be consistent with last year’s or less than or busier.

Janoski’s Farm offers fresh cut Christmas trees and poinsettias grown there on the farm.

Tree varieties offered include Fraiser, Douglas and Concolor firs as well as blue spruce and ball and burlap trees which is a tree with the roots still in place for replanting.

Trees are all pre-cut. The business also offers a large selection of decorated grave blankets and grave pillows.

Poinsettias from 4-inch and larger are available in red, white and pink along with some interesting color selections, according to Janoski.

Janoski’s also provided poinsettias for fundraisers and for over 200 local churches.

The family-owned and operated business is located at 1714 state Route 30, Clinton, Pennsylvania. They can be reached through their website at www.janoskis.com or by phone at 724-899-3438.

The business is open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Mundy’s Nursery and Christmas Tree Farm

Mundy’s Nursery and Christmas Tree Farm was started in Lisbon in 1990 by Bill and Janice Mundy, who sold their first Christmas Tree in 1970.

The business is family owned and operated with three employees. In addition to Bill, there are his son John, son-in-law Dale and grandson Nick.

Mundy’s offers cut-your-own trees or a selection of pre-cut trees in White Pine, Norway or Blue Spruce, Scotch Pine and a variety of fir trees.

According to Bill, at one time the farm had 50 acres of Christmas trees, but the demand isn’t there anymore to have that many acres of trees. They used to grow about 100,000 trees but now its closer to 25,000. The business used to average about 150 trees sold for replanting but now is it around 50 trees.

Bill said in years past, they would sell approximately 1,000 trees, but now they are lucky to sell around 200. He noted that there have been times when he has burned more trees than he sold because they got too big and he couldn’t sell them.

Bill did say that business has been picking up a little better over the past couple of years since the COVID-19 pandemic, which were some of the worst years for them business-wise.

“Business isn’t there, not around here, and that’s why so many people have gone out of business around here,” Bill said. “The money just isn’t there. You can grow them, but it doesn’t matter if you can’t sale them.”

Mundy’s Nursery and Christmas Tree Farm is located at 12854 state Route 45, Lisbon. They can be reached by phone at 330-424-3189.

They are open Friday through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Christmas Eve. Trees are shaken, baled, loaded and tied down for the customers.

Rea’s Market

Rea’s Markert, located at 2600 state Route 45 S, near Kent State University Salem, sells precut Fraiser Fir, Blue Spruce and White Pine Christmas in the 6- to 8-foot range. Tree shoppers can also find crafts made by a local artist at the market. Rea’s Market is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m, Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and varying hours on Sundays. Tree selection is available from 11 a.m. to dusk.

Van Pelt Fresh Produce

Van Pelt Fresh Produce does not offer Christmas trees, but they offer a wide variety of locally grown poinsettias in a variety of colors including red, white, pink, orange and a variegated speckled. Owner Linford Van Pelt noted that the orange ones are quite popular.

The poinsettias which are grown on the Van Pelt Farm sell for $17.99.

Van Pelt said it is too soon to know how business is doing for them since this is only their second year growing and selling poinsettias.

“Poinsettias are still new for us, so we are still learning how it is working for us,” Van Pelt said. “This is our second year, so we don’t have enough history yet to know how it works for us.”

Van Pelt noted that people looking for poinsettias should consider purchasing from them because they are locally grown, and customers would have a large selection to choose from and would be buying directly from the grower.

Van Pelt also noted that customers can place their holiday baking orders for items such as cookies, cakes and pies from them.

Van Pelt Fresh Produce is located at 4069 Unity Line Road, New Waterford. Business hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. They can be reached by phone at 330-457-2651.

Starting at $2.99/week.
