Honors Lists

CEDARVILLE – Cedarville University student Jessie Thomas of North Lima, majoring in Social Work, was named to the Dean’s Honor List for spring 2022. This recognition requires the student to obtain a 3.75 GPA or higher for the semester and carry a minimum of 12 credit hours.

ADA, Ohio – The following students from Columbiana County were named to the Dean’s List for spring semester 2022 at Ohio Northern University. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, a student must attain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and be enrolled full time.

BEREA – The following local students have been named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2022 semester at Baldwin Wallace University, according to Provost Stephen D. Stahl. The Dean’s List recognizes students who earn a grade point average of 3.6 or higher while enrolled in 12 or more graded hours during the semester.

TAMPA, Fla. — Madison Weaver of Hookstown earned dean’s list honors at The University of Tampa for the Spring 2022 semester. Weaver was a Sophomore majoring in Biochemistry BS. Students must maintain a GPA of 3.75 or higher to be eligible for the dean’s list.

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The following John Carroll University students have been named to the Spring 2022 Boler College of Business Dean’s List. Students eligible for the Dean’s List must have completed a minimum of 12 semester hours within one semester and have a quality grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Maggie Novak of Alliance was named to the Dean’s List at Rochester Institute of Technology for the Spring 2022 Semester. Novak is in the photographic and imaging arts program. Full-time degree-seeking undergraduate students are eligible for Dean’s List if their term GPA is greater than or equal to 3.400; they do not have any grades of “Incomplete,” “D” or “F;” and they have registered for, and completed, at least 12 credit hours.

ATLANTA, Ga. — Jackie Chen of Calcutta made the Dean’s List for the Spring 2022 semester at the Georgia Institute of Technology. This designation is awarded to undergraduate students who have earned a 3.0 or higher academic average for the semester.

FINDLAY, Ohio –The dean’s list for the spring 2022 semester at the University of Findlay has been announced. To earn this achievement, a student must attain a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Local students include: Abigail George of Salem and Kasey Goodchild of Salem

BEXLEY, Ohio – Brendan Stinson of Alliance was named to the Provost’s List for the spring 2022 semester at Capital University. To be named to the Provost’s List, full-time, degree-seeking students must have achieved a grade point average of 3.70 to 3.849.

ADELPHI, Maryland — Jakob Althouse of Salem was named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester at University of Maryland Global Campus. To be eligible for the honor, a student must complete at least six credits during the term, earned a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the term, and maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 at UMGC.

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Michigan — Maria Costanzo of Columbiana was among over 1,600 students from Saginaw Valley State University who earned a spot on the winter 2022 semester Deans’ List. To be eligible for the Deans’ List, a student must take at least 12 credit hours and carry a semester GPA of 3.4 or better.

DELAWARE, Ohio – Jillian O’Hara of East Liverpool was inducted May 6 into Ohio Wesleyan University’s chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest academic honor society. The historic organization counts 17 U.S. presidents, 42 Supreme Court justices, and more than 150 Nobel laureates among its members. Nationwide, only 10 percent of all U.S. colleges and universities have Phi Beta Kappa chapters, and each of the 290 chapters selects only 10 percent of its graduates annually to join through a highly selective, merit-based invitation process. Based in Washington, D.C., Phi Beta Kappa was founded in 1776, and its name originated from the motto “Love of learning is the guide of life.” Ohio Wesleyan’s Eta Chapter was founded in 1907.

ELKINS, W.V. – Shawn Moore of Chester, West Virginia, a student at Davis & Elkins College, has been named to the president’s list for the spring 2022 semester. The president’s list includes all full-time students with a 4.0 GPA for the semester.

WEST LIBERTY – Brooke Provenzano, New Cumberland, W. Va., was honored for the highest grade point average (GPA) in the College of Education and Human Performance during the West Liberty University Commencement Ceremonies May 7, which included 393 students. MARIETTA – Marietta College’s Thomas Caserta of Alliance has been named to the Spring 2022 Dean’s List. Caserta is majoring in Petroleum Engineering and is a graduate of West Branch High School. Any full-time Marietta College student completing at least 15 credit hours with a grade point average between 3.5 and 3.74 in a given semester is recognized as a Dean’s List student for that semester.

MARIETTA – About 170 Marietta College students were named to the Spring 2022 Dean’s High Honors List, which features any full-time student completing at least 15 credit hours with a grade point average of 3.75 or better in a given semester. The following students are from your coverage area:

HIRAM – Kendall Belcher of Alliance and Derek Hurst of Minerva have been named to the Hiram College Dean’s List for the Spring 2022 semester. Dean’s List recognition is awarded each semester to students who, during the semester, complete 12 or more hours of graded coursework at Hiram College with a semester grade point average of 3.6 or better.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Sara Durr of Columbiana has been named to the spring 2022 Dean’s List at Palmer College of Chiropractic’s Main campus in Davenport, Iowa.

PORT ORANGE, Florida — Lindy Baird of Salem has been named to the spring 2022 Dean’s List at Palmer College of Chiropractic’s Florida campus in Port Orange, Florida.

Graduates

DELAWARE, Ohio – Ohio Wesleyan University held its 178th commencement ceremony on May 7, celebrating its Class of 2022.

Local residents graduating this spring are:

Jillian O’Hara of East Liverpool. O’Hara earned a Bachelor of Arts degree summa cum laude and was a Middle Childhood Education major and an English minor.

Mackenzie Wade of East Liverpool. Wade earned a Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude and was a Geography major.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Maggie Novak of Alliance graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a BFA in photographic and imaging arts. Some 4,300 degrees were conferred in the 2021-2022 academic year at all of RIT’s campuses. RIT’s 137th academic convocation celebration was held in May and featured remarks by Kimberly Bryant, founder of the nonprofit organization Black Girls CODE.

ALLIANCE – More than 400 graduate and undergraduate students participated in the University of Mount Union’s 176th Commencement Ceremony held May 14 in the Peterson Field House of the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

MARIETTA, Ohio — Sydney Smith of Sebring graduated from Marietta College’s Physician Assistant Studies Program during a ceremony July 23. In all, 36 students were part of the 19th graduating class that completed the 26-month program.

BEXLEY, Ohio – Brendan Stinson of Alliance was among nearly 400 graduates who received their undergraduate degrees from Capital at the University’s 172nd Commencement Ceremony in May 2022. Undergraduate degrees conferred were Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Arts (Music), Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Social Work, and Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

MACON/ATLANTA, Ga. — Alisha Danner of Hanoverton, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Bachelor of Arts graduated from Mercer University, which conferred bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees to more than 2,300 students at five commencements held in May in Macon and Atlanta.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Corey Stamco of Alliance graduated from the University of Hartford in May of 2022. Stamco earned a Master of Science in OL – Organizational Psych..

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina University recognized more than 1,200 students during its spring commencement ceremonies, held May 6-7. Among the graduates was Jarrett Smith, a Political Science major from Salem.

MARIETTA – Noah Turek of Hookstown, Pa., a graduate of South Side High School, was among more than 260 students who received diplomas at Marietta College’s 185th commencement ceremony May 7 in the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. Turek completed requirements for a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering.

MARIETTA – Gino Sabatine of Beloit, a graduate of West Branch High School, was among more than 260 students who received diplomas at Marietta College’s 185th commencement ceremony May 7 in the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. Sabatine completed requirements for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing.
