HANOVERTON -- Hanoverton Village gathered on Sunday, May 17, to honor the memory and sacrifices of local military veterans during its annual Memorial Day Service.
The community event commenced with a patriotic parade moving from Pelley Park to Betz Park. Leading the procession was the United High School Band, under the direction of Nome Baker, followed by a lineup of Hanover Township emergency vehicles.
Upon arriving at Betz Park, the United High School Band set a solemn and reverent tone for the afternoon with performances of "The Star-Spangled Banner" and Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA."
Mayor Becky Kibler opened the formal ceremony with welcoming remarks, thanking residents for gathering to remember the nation's fallen heroes. The community's spiritual leaders guided the attendees in reflection, with Reverend Mark Wilds delivering the invocation and Reverend Gene Hydrick offering the benediction.
Ohio Rep. Monica Robb Blasdel served as the keynote speaker. In her address, Blasdel emphasized the profound importance of remembering local service members and maintaining community traditions of gratitude. Following her remarks, she laid a ceremonial wreath at the Betz Park monument, which honors the individuals from Hanoverton who served in World War II.
The annual service successfully brought the Hanoverton community together to ensure that the legacy of local veterans continues to be recognized and revered.
