Officials: No injuries in Lisbon area motel fire

Firefighters from across the area survey the damage caused by a fire at the Traveler’s Motel outside of Lisbon Tuesday morning.

LISBON — Nobody was injured in a fire that broke out Tuesday just before 8 a.m. at Travelers Motel on State Route 45. Lisbon Fire Chief Mark Hall said Tuesday early afternoon that the call had been cleared and that the insurance company was currently at the scene boarding up holes in the roof.

“I just went back out there just to make sure there’s no hot spots or anything,” Hall said. “Everything is good. It was a very good stop.”

There were no injuries reported in the blaze, Hall said, and added that the people in the motel were out of the building by the time the fire department arrived. “Everyone was out and most had left for work,” he said.

Hall said the fire was fairly contained. He said out of 17 units, about six or seven were damaged in the blaze, which he said started in the roof area. “When we got there the whole roof, we had smoke coming out,” Hall said.

In addition to Lisbon’s fire department, Hall said Hanoverton and West Point fire departments also responded to the scene, and Leetonia assisted by manning the station for any other calls.

The case of the fire is not known at this time, Hall said, but he said nothing appears suspicious. He said responders did good work. “The guys made a heck of a stop,” Hall said. “It was a really, really good save.”
