LISBON — A man charged with breaking into a Kent State University building in East Liverpool and vandalizing property last year was sentenced to at least a year in prison for multiple charges in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court.

David Gamble, 35, Park Place, East Liverpool, pleaded guilty in May to fifth-degree felonies of breaking and entering, two counts vandalism, possessing criminal tools, and misdemeanors of theft, criminal trespass and three counts criminal damaging. The charges stemmed from three separate indictments.

On Nov. 29, 2023, Gamble was located on the third floor of the Kent State University building in East Liverpool, along with an ax used to break the glass door to make entry. On Nov. 24, 2023, he was seen on video inside Nikki’s Market in East Liverpool and bent the fan blades on the air conditioning unit. The third indictment alleged that he caused serious physical harm to a surveillance camera owned by a governmental entity on Nov. 30, 2023.

In the case dealing with the damages at Kent State on Nov. 29, he was sentenced to six months in prison, with credit for 25 days served. He received an additional six months for the camera damage from Nov. 30. For the vandalism at Nikki’s on Nov. 24, he received six months, but with credit for 180 days already served.

Also in Common Pleas Court:

— Edward Bailey, 40, Allison Street, East Liverpool, was sentenced to 36 months in prison for third-degree felony burglary and third-degree felony grand theft when the property is a firearm or dangerous ordnance. He received credit for 39 days served in jail. Bailey was accused of stealing a firearm on Nov. 3, 2020.

— Levi Shields, 28, Midland, Pa., was sentenced to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to third-degree felonies of illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified governmental facility and tampering with evidence and fifth-degree felony aggravated possession of drugs. He made the decision to enter a plea after a jury trial for his case had already started. Shields received credit for 79 days served in jail. Shields possessed methamphetamine and tried to take drugs onto the grounds of a detention facility and tamper with evidence on Feb. 1, 2023.

— Steven Summers, 48, Vale Street, East Liverpool, was sentenced to prison for nine months for two counts possession of cocaine, a fourth-degree felony, with credit for one day served. Steven Summers had been accused of two separate charges for possessing cocaine on April 1, 2022, with one charge dealing with an amount of cocaine equal or greater than 5 grams, but less than 10 grams.

— Alan Summers, 57, West Egypt Road, Minerva, pleaded guilty to a lesser offense of third-degree felony attempted burglary (originally second-degree felony burglary), fourth-degree felony trespass in a habitation when a person is present or likely to be present, and misdemeanors of criminal trespass and two counts of criminal damaging, with sentencing set for Aug. 29. Alan Summers attempted to break into a residence on Knox School Road, West Township on March 22 by putting a ladder up to the kitchen window, breaking it out and attempting to gain entry. An affidavit said he admitted to breaking into the detached garage on the property by breaking a window and leaving his shoes and stocking cap inside the garage.
