LISBON — A New Waterford man who kicked at Salem police officers during a disorderly incident last fall was sentenced to nine months in prison.
Mark Knight, 24, Pinewood Drive, appeared for sentencing in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court for three fourth-degree felonies of assault and misdemeanors of obstructing official business and resisting arrest. A charge of disorderly conduct was dismissed. He received credit for 135 days served.
Knight attempted multiple times to kick Salem police officers while pulling away after his arrest for being disorderly, then kicked officers from the back of an ambulance on Sept. 30 in Salem.
Also in Common Pleas Court:
— Lee Givens, 37, East Taggart Street, was sentenced to 36 months in prison and given a mandatory fine of $5,000 after pleading guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, a third-degree felony, with a specification for forfeiture of money in a drug case. Charges of aggravated trafficking in drugs and drug paraphernalia were dismissed. The drug charges stemmed from Oct. 21, 2021 when Givens possessed and prepared for sale an amount of methamphetamine equal or greater than five times the bulk amount, but less than 50 times the bulk amount and possessed drug paraphernalia.
— Johnathan Post, 36, Main Street, Leetonia, was sentenced to seven months in prison after pleading guilty to possession of fentanyl-related compound, a fifth-degree felony. The sentence was ordered served at the same time as an 18-month prison term issued in July for possession of fentanyl-related compound, a fifth-degree felony, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony, and having weapons under disability, a third-degree felony. The more recent charge stemmed fro his possession of fentanyl on Nov. 15, 2022. The other case involved a loaded firearm in a vehicle during a traffic stop on April 22, 2021. He was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a previous criminal conviction for arson in Trumbull County.
— Steven R. Stark, 45, New Milford, Pa., was ordered examined by the Forensic Psychiatric Center of Northeast Ohio for competency to stand trial and the ability to plead not guilty by reason of insanity on charges of third-degree felony compelling prostitution, fourth-degree felony attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, fifth-degree felony possessing criminal tools and misdemeanor engaging in prostitution. Stark allegedly responded to a posted undercover ad of an adult female and 15-year-old female on a known prostitution website, arranged to have sexual conduct with both females in exchange for $320 and arrived in East Palestine on Aug. 7 for the meeting. A trial that had been scheduled for Feb. 12 was cancelled, with a status hearing set for April 26.
— Brandon Budd, 36, Culpepper, Va., was sentenced to 10 months in prison for fourth-degree felonies of attempted compelling prostitution and attempted unlawful sexual contact with a minor. Charges of possessing criminal tools and engaging in prostitution were dismissed. Budd answered an undercover online ad for an adult female and a 15-year-old juvenile and arranged for sexual activity with both in exchange for $180, arriving in East Palestine on Feb. 2 for the meeting. He was deemed a Tier II sex offender, required to register his address with the sheriff of the county where he resides.
— David Orlic, 45, Dubois, Pa., was sentenced to six months in prison, with credit for one day served, for fourth-degree felonies of attempted compelling prostitution and attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. Charges of importuning and possessing criminal tools were dismissed. He was deemed a Tier II sexual offender with a requirement to report his address to the sheriff’s office where he resides. Orlic was accused of responding to an undercover ad of a 15-year-old female on a known prostitution website and arranging to have sexual conduct with the teen in exchange for $140. He drove to Salem for the meeting Nov. 18, 2022.
— A case against Kristal Keyes, 39, Claibourne Street, East Liverpool, was dropped after the county grand jury issued no bill of indictment for a charge of obstructing official business for allegedly failing to listen to orders of U.S. Marshals executing an arrest warrant at a Y & O Road, East Liverpool residence on Dec. 20, 2023.
— Jennifer Mshar, 37, Youngstown, pleaded guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, with sentencing set for April 19, for allegedly possessing methamphetamine on April 7, 2022.
— Danielle Simons, 49, Richmond, Va., was ordered to serve up to six months at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center and was given a mandatory $5,000 fine for aggravated possession of drugs, a third-degree felony. She received credit for 31 days already served in jail. Simons possessed methamphetamine on Dec. 3, 2020 in an amount equal or greater than bulk but less than five times bulk.
