Grand Jury

LISBON — Tia Miller, 34, Martin Avenue, East Liverpool, was served Tuesday with a secret indictment issued by the Columbiana County Grand Jury for possession of fentanyl-related compound, a fifth-degree felony, for allegedly possessing fentanyl on Feb. 19, 2022.

LISBON — A Lisbon man recently sentenced to 24 months in prison for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs filed paperwork to challenge dismissal of his motion to suppress evidence.

David Shaw, 58, Steubenville Pike Road, filed the appeal in the Seventh District Court of Appeals.

During the recent sentencing, Columbiana County Common Pleas Court Judge Scott Washam agreed to stay execution of the prison term to allow Shaw to file the appeal.

As part of the sentence, he was fined $5,000 and had his driver’s license suspended for life. He pleaded no contest to the third-degree felony OVI charge and was found guilty. The incident occurred Oct. 23, 2022 in Lisbon.

Also in Common Pleas Court:

— Luis Rodriguez Cortada, 47, Struthers, pleaded guilty to improperly carrying a firearm in a motor vehicle and carrying a concealed weapon, both fourth-degree felonies, and having weapons while under disability, a third-degree felony. Sentencing was set for Jan. 19. During a traffic stop on Sept. 9, 2021 in Perry Township, Cortada had a loaded handgun in the glovebox and was prohibited from having a gun due to a previous drug conviction.

— Gregory Swan, 63, Weirton, W.Va., pleaded guilty to a lesser included offense fourth-degree felony attempted compelling prostitution, fifth-degree felony importuning and fourth-degree felony attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, with sentencing set for Jan. 5. He was originally charged with compelling prostitution. A charge of possessing criminal tools will be dismissed. Swan was accused of arranging to meet a law enforcement officer posing as a teen for sexual conduct from Nov. 10, 2022 to Nov. 26, 2022.

— Glen Gabriel, 29, Youngstown, was placed on probation for two years and ordered to forfeit $1,122 after pleading guilty to fourth-degree felony improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, fifth-degree felony trafficking in marijuana with specification for forfeiture of money in a drug case, and misdemeanors of illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing official business. Gabriel was accused of having a loaded firearm tucked in the back waistband of his pants during a March 16, 2022 traffic stop in Columbiana when he got out of the vehicle and tried to go back inside, having to be forcefully removed. Gabriel allegedly possessed marijuana, paraphernalia, $1,122 and ammunition for the handgun.

— Jason Nalley, 41, St. Clair Avenue, East Liverpool, was placed on probation for two years after pleading guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, for possessing methamphetamine on April 27, 2021. He received credit for 44 days served in jail.
