Court News

LISBON — An East Liverpool man accused of firing a shot from a handgun into the door of an occupied East Liverpool bar last year was sentenced to prison for two years.

Romello Edison, 25, West Sixth Street, previously entered a guilty plea to a lesser offense of discharge of a firearm on or in a prohibited premises. Edison had originally been charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony, and misdemeanor assault for the Oct. 15, 2022 incident. The misdemeanor assault charge for attempting to cause harm to a man was dismissed.

Also in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court:

— David Haught Jr., 37, Florence Street, East Liverpool, was sentenced to eight months in prison after pleading guilty to breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony, for breaking into an unoccupied structure to commit theft on May 2, 2022. The prison term was ordered served at the same time as the eight-month sentence he received for aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony with a specification for forfeiting money from a drug case. He was accused of possessing $184 and methamphetamine on Feb. 24, 2021. The new sentence, however, was ordered served after or consecutive to the 4- to 6-year sentence he received in January for three counts of burglary, two second-degree felonies and one a third-degree felony, for incidents in Columbiana County on Feb. 18, March 13 and March 16 in 2022.

— Kendall Rollines, 32, Youngstown, was sentenced to nine months in prison for attempted compelling prostitution, a fourth-degree felony lesser included offense, a fourth-degree felony of attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and misdemeanor engaging in prostitution. A charge of possessing criminal tools was dismissed. Rollines was accused of answering an undercover ad for a female and a 15-year-old girl, arranging for sexual contact with them in exchange for $70 and arriving for the meeting Nov. 5, 2022 in East Palestine.

— Daniel Piatt, 46, Maple City, Mich., was sentenced to nine months in prison, with credit for one day served, for attempted compelling prostitution and attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, both fourth-degree felonies. Piatt was accused of arranging for sexual activity in exchange for $120 with an undercover agent posing as a female and 15-year-old girl and arriving in East Palestine on Sept. 14, 2022 for the meeting.

— Stephen D. Smith, 69, Delta, was sentenced to nine months in prison for fourth-degree felonies of attempted compelling prostitution and attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, and a misdemeanor of engaging in prostitution. He had been originally accused of soliciting sexual activity in exchange for $240 from an undercover agent posing online as an adult female and 15-year-old juvenile, then arriving in East Palestine for the meeting Nov. 8, 2022.

— Dameon Lovett, 49, Penn Avenue, East Liverpool, was ordered to prison for 18 months, with credit for 188 days served, after he was found in violation of his probation for a domestic violence charge for attempting to harm a woman on Dec. 20, 2019.

— Geoffrey Mathey, 50, Bank Street, Salem, was placed on probation for three years for aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, for possessing oxycodone on Sept. 9, 2021.

— Thomas May Jr., 38, state Route 154, Lisbon, had his probation extended to Jan 3, 2026 for violating the terms of his intervention plan for fourth-degree felony possession of LSD and two counts aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. May possessed methamphetamine and LSD on Sept. 10, 2020 and methamphetamine on July 6, 2021.

— Rachel Zelasko, 39, Crews Road, Wellsville, was placed on a treatment plan for three years after pleading guilty to possession of fentanyl-related compound, a fifth-degree felony, for possessing fentanyl on Aug. 4, 2022.

— Jesse Shiflett, 29, Youngstown, was placed on probation for three years after pleading guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, for possessing methamphetamine on Feb. 22, 2022.

— Joni May, 40, Dakota Street, East Liverpool, was sentenced to three days in the county jail after pleading guilty to attempted aggravated possession of drugs, a misdemeanor, for attempting to possess methamphetamine on May 7, 2022.

— Jai Breon Smith, 22, Steubenville, was placed on a treatment plan for two years after pleading guilty to possession of marijuana, a fifth-degree felony, for an incident July 14, 2022.

Municipal

LISBON — In Columbiana County Municipal Court, a preliminary hearing was set Oct. 10 for Matthew J. Bennett, 26, Clinton, Pa., charged with two counts of receiving stolen property for allegedly pawning at a Columbiana business cameras and other photography equipment reported stolen from a vehicle in Salem May 11, 2016,

A sentencing hearing was set Oct. 5 for Thomas E. Holman, 42, County Home Road, Lisbon, charged with a protection order violation for allegedly being on the porch of home of someone who has a protection order against him Sept. 23 in Wellsville.

A pretrial was set Oct. 2 for Antonio D. DeLeon, 29, Crestview Road, Columbiana, charged with resisting arrest and two counts of disorderly conduct for allegedly biting a household member on the back and resisting arrest, then banging his head off the divider of the cruiser multiple times and being uncooperative with officers at the county jail while being booked.

A pretrial was set Oct. 2 for Brian W. Keith, 53, Minerva Street, East Liverpool, charged with resisting arrest, obstructing official business and domestic violence for allegedly choking a family member Jan. 10 in East Liverpool then fleeing from officers attempting to serve him with the warrant Sept. 22 in East Liverpool.

A pretrial was set Oct. 2 for Andrew P. Deal, 44, East Main Street, Washingtonville, charged with obstructing official business and criminal damaging after allegedly hiding from officers Sept. 22 at his home who were following up on an investigation of an overdose death and attempting to serve him a warrant for criminal damaging, stemming from an incident Nov. 1, 2022 in which he was allegedly destroying property at a Washingtonville home.

A pretrial was set Oct. 5 for Ashley M. Woods, 36, Harding Avenue, Salem, charged with domestic violence for causing physical harm to a household member Sept. 24 in Perry Township.

A pretrial was set Oct. 16 for Crystal Rae Hoskinson, 32, North Lundy Avenue, Salem, charged with possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia.

A pretrial was set Nov. 6 for Thomas L. Peterson, 59, Medina, charged with obstruction of official business and resisting arrest for allegedly refusing to identify himself, then fleeing from officers before being caught, after being found rummaging through a dumpster at Sebo Stadium in Salem Sept. 24.

A pretrial was set Dec. 14 for Amanda N. Durbin, 38, Rockport, N.Y., charged with theft, possession of criminal tools and drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop in St. Clair Township in which he was accused of stealing from a business and allegedly possessed a bundle of narcotics and seven glass pipes with residue.

A pretrial was set Dec. 14 for Nicole M. Baringer, 34, West Washington Street, Lisbon, charged with theft for allegedly stealing $48.64 worth of merchandise from a Lisbon business Sept. 13.

A pretrial was set Jan. 4 for Brandy Elizabeth Sanders, 26, East Main Street, Washingtonville, charged with driving under suspension and illegal use/possession of drug paraphernalia.

A pretrial was set Jan. 8 for Jacklyn S. Solomon, 40, East Main Street, Washingtonville, charged with obstructing official business for allegedly lying to officers Sept. 22 about the presence of a man at her home wanted on a warrant during a follow up investigation of an overdose death in Washingtonville.

A pretrial was set Jan. 8 for Bradley M. Yates, 41, Beaver Falls, Pa., charged with obstructing official business for allegedly fleeing on foot from a vehicle during a traffic stop Sept. 24 in East Palestine in which he was a passenger, allowing the driver to flee the scene in the vehicle.

A pretrial was set Jan. 8 for Andrew Johnson Clark, 51, Warren, charged with engaging in prostitution and possession of criminal tools for allegedly traveling to East Palestine Sept. 8 where he had arranged to pay $80 for sexual conduct with a woman in response to an online ad posted by a Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force agent.
