Mary Jo Smith

SALEM -- Mary Jo Smith, 84, of Salem died at 8:39 p.m. Thursday at Salem Regional Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 25, 1932 in Columbiana, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Susan "Myrtle" (Fisher) Gross.

She had worked at Real Life Child Care, Salem Visiting Nurses Association and the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services and was the former owner of Mary's Melodies Record Shop in Columbiana.

She had been a member of First Friends Church of Salem.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland C. "Rollie" Smith; a son, John Roland Smith; and a brother, Robert Gross.

Survivors include two sons, David Smith of Waltham, Mass., and  Ken Smith of Berlin Center; four daughters, Susan Smith of Salem, Nancy Ford of Houston, Texas, Cinda Elser of Columbiana and Julie Crawford of Salem; two sisters, Donna Rupert of Columbiana and Doris Gough of New Waterford; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the Salem First Friends Church, with the Rev. Pete Fowler officiating. Burial will be at Columbiana Cemetery.

Calling hours will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
