EAST LIVERPOOL -- The Board of Education recognized a longtime guidance counselor who will wrap up his career at the end of the school year.
During Thursday's meeting, the board accepted the resignation of James Arcuragi, a guidance counselor at the high school who intends to retire.
Board member Larry Walton congratulated Arcuragi, who joined the district in 1986. Arcuragi's retirement will go into effect May 31.
Also regarding personnel, the board approved the assignments of Bob Bosco and Alfred Johnson as event workers and the addition of Lindsey Potts as a substitute teacher's aide,.
The board also accepted salary adjustments for Thomas Gruhalla and Jill Monroe Gruhalla will move to $60,055 per year and Monroe will earn $49,397 per year.
Both salaries are pro-rated and will go into effect Jan. 14.
In other business, the board:
-- Approved the second reading of three proposed board policies, two of which involve staff-student relations and a third involve authorized signatures and use of facsimile signatures.
-- Approved a change order with Plug Smart to cover charges to Protech Electrical for lighting and security. The amount was $44,326,
Superintendent Randy Taylor discussed a meeting with the administrative team during the holiday break which involved further training for teachers in reading programs that will be implemented for grades K-8, with three members currently involved. Taylor said the administration will look to train all teachers in preparation for next year, but will need another day to handle that training. Plans are for Feb. 1 to be used as a waiver day for the training.
Walton suggested to that the board start to look for a commencement speaker for the high school's graduation ceremonies at the end of May.
The next regular meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Jan. 24 at the administrative offices at Westgate Middle School.
