WELLSVILLE -- With the election less than five weeks away, members of village council Tuesday once again urged voters to pass the half-percent income tax increase.
This time, the focus was on the paving of the village's roadways, which is where half the money generated from the tax increase will go if approved Nov. 7.
The other half would be earmarked toward services, wages and equipment for the police department.
Assuming the levy would pass, Councilman John Morrow asked Village Administrator Jerry Medley if a plan of what streets need paving or patching could be compiled.
Medley said "There's six of you (council) up there. Give me a list of what ones you'd like to see, and then we'll start."
Morrow suggested the street department, one day a week, would patch or pave, based on suggestions from voters.
"I think we can all cruise around town and find a spot and give it to (Medley)," Morrow said. "We're asking people for money and they say 'What's your plan? What's your vision?' Maybe we come up with a vision of some streets and ultimately what we're going to repave."
Clover Street resident and former Administrator Jim Saracco said, "Please get out and vote for that levy this time because they would like to get that thing passed," Saracco said. "Maybe Wellsville will have an easier way this time."
Morrow announced that the Moving Wellsville Forward Committee will hold a second public forum at 6 p.m. Oct. 11, at the Sons of Italy on Main Street.
Morrow said information on the income tax increase, as well as absentee ballots, are available at Village Hall.
