AutoZone’s plans for bank property don’t include the building

Morning Journal/Katie White The former PNC Bank building at 1102 Village Plaza will likely become the site of a new AutoZone store, now that the city’s planning commission has approved plans for its construction.

COLUMBIANA -- Plans are in the works for an AutoZone to replace the former PNC Bank building in the Village Plaza.

Jay Nixon of Prism Engineering located in Louisville, Ky., approached the city's planning commission on Tuesday requesting approval of plans that call for a 6,818-square-foot AutoZone building and 37 parking spaces.

The plans also include green space along two sides of the property, which Nixon explained had been increased from the original plans by about 40 percent.

The original plans called for roughly 5,000-square-feet of green space while the new plan features 8,000, he explained.

The proposed green space is located along the side of the property facing Rite Aid on South Avenue, and along the property facing state Route 14.

The plans already meet all of the city's setback requirements for the C-4 zoned area.

"AutoZone is more than willing to negotiate whatever you all think is best," Nixon said to the commission.

The commission approved the site plan review, and Nixon said the next step is for the company to raze the PNC building and construct the new building.

He expects construction will begin as early as next month, with the project going out to bid in the coming weeks.

Once construction begins, the new building should be done within about six weeks, he added.

"We are very fast and very organized," he said.

The former PNC bank building is currently owned by Columbiana Bank Venture, LLC and a sign on the property has it advertised for sale or lease.

Nixon said now that the commission has approved the plans, he expects the company to enter into an agreement soon to buy the building in order to move ahead with the plans.
