LISBON -- The operator of a preschool/child care center is seeking additional funding from the county to open a second location in Wellsville.
Jamie Mitchell of A & J Kiducation Learning Center on Commerce Street in Wellsville is seeking to add a second site at 831 Main St.. She has applied for a $25,000 low-interest loan from the county Community Improvement Corp. and a $15,000 low-interest loan from the mini-loan program administered by the county Community Action Agency.
County Development Director Tad Herold, whose office oversees the CIC's small business revolving loan program, said they need to run the application past the state for approval. The initial money used to start the CIC loan program came from the state and other state funding has been used over the years to replenish the program.
If the CIC is unable to loan any money, the CAA is prepared to loan Mitchell up to $40,000, Herold said.
The total project cost is $65,000, most of which is going to purchase the Commerce Street building and equipment for the Main Street location. The new location will result in the creation of two additional jobs.
The CIC loan program has a current a balance of about $150,000, and money from the loan payments is used to lend out to other small businesses needing help getting started or seeking to expand.
