NEW YORK (AP) — Paul Skenes thought he could get out of a jam in the first inning on opening day. He never got the chance. After giving up five runs and getting only two outs Thursday in an 11-7 loss at the New York Mets, the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner got the hook from manager Don Kelly after throwing just 37 pitches. The 43-year-old Smith grew up in Tennessee, played offensive line at North Carolina and has never worked in the state of Ohio since joining the coaching ranks in 2006. However, he encountered many former Buckeyes during his various jobs, ...

Marshall up next for Youngstown St.

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown State women’s basketball team has made a living in the third quarter this season. After a pair of slow starts to the second half during the Horizon League tournament two weeks ago, YSU head coach Melissa Jackson challenged her team at halftime on Tuesday night. Despite a rusty start in the first half, the Penguins answered the call, pulling away from Maryland Eastern Shore with a dominant third quarter to beat the Hawks 61-42 in the second round of the WNIT at Zidian Family Arena. “We weren’t happy with how we came out of half in the Horizon ...
