Potters get an assist EAST LIVERPOOL — The East Liverpool bowling team got a helping hand from the Beaver Local school district on Saturday at the OVAC bowling tournament in Morgantown, West Virginia. East Liverpool was experiencing bus trouble, so Beaver Local volunteered to take the Potter bowling team back home with the big winter storm looming. Cambridge 71, Beaver Local 40 ST. CLAIRSVILLE — It was a banner day for Cambridge and senior guard Garrett Carpenter on Saturday. Carpenter scored 34 points, including the 1,000th of his career, as Cambridge topped Beaver Local, 71-40, in the Buckeye 8 championship game at the ECO Center. West Branch claims EBC title

West Branch 30, Carrollton 27 BELOIT — The West Branch girls can’t be beat in the Eastern Buckeye Conference. West Branch captured its third straight EBC title with a 30-27 victory over Carrollton on Saturday. West Branch has won 30 straight league games and have 18 league titles in the last 31 years. Carrollton led 5-2 in the first quarter, but West Branch held the scoring edge in each of the last three quarters for the victory. McGonigal has nothing to fear

CANAL FULTON — East Liverpool junior Alannah McGonigal recorded three pins in 4:06 to highlight the Fear the Spear girls wrestling tournament Saturday at Northwest High School. McGonigal captured the 170-pound title by pinning Fairless senior Kaitlynn Berresford in 2:38 in the championship match. The Potters tied seventh out of 44 teams with 75 points.
