United needs one more win

LISBON -- The United volleyball team moved within one match of a share of the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference title.

The Golden Eagles spiked Lisbon, 25-9, 25-6, 25-15, Wednesday.

United improves to 14-4 overall and 10-1 in the EOAC. Columbiana has already clinched a share of its fourth straight EOAC title. The Eagles wrap up league play at East Palestine on Oct. 14.

Rileah Phillips paced United with 22 points, 10 aces and 22 assists. Lily Erb had 11 points and seven digs, Baylee Smith nine points and 17 digs, Maelee Smith 10 kills and Kendall Erb 13 digs.

For Lisbon, Addy Anderson had five kills and five digs, Alayna Householder three kills, two points and 11 digs, Ariel Dickey nine digs, Kylyn Boyd four digs and Brigett Newbold 10 assists and three digs.

Lisbon won the junior varsity match, 27-25, 22-25, 26-24. Gracyn Owens had six kills, six points, 10 assists, and five saves and Kylyn Boyd six points, two aces, three kills and six digs for the Blue Devils. Kyler Malone had six kills, three aces and three assists, Carrie Hager four kills and two blocks, Harley Spencer four kills and Johanna Ford 21 digs.

For the Eagles, Adrianna Beadnell had nine points, five aces and nine digs, Gwyndalen Haynes seven points, three aces, 17 digs and four kills and Ella Humphrey five points, seven kills and 16 digs.

WEST BRANCH 3, COLUMBIANA 1

BELOIT -- It was a matchup of league champions with West Branch beating Columbiana, 25-27, 25-17, 25-20, 25-8, Wednesday.

West Branch -- which won the Eastern Buckeye Conference for its first league title since 2002 -- has won five of its last six matches to improve to 15-5.

Columbiana -- which has claimed four straight Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference titles -- has lost two of its last three to fall to 16-2.

Landry Smith had 14 points, two aces and five kills and Keagen Pruitt nine points, two aces, four kills and 14 digs for the Clippers. Addison Dangler totaled 10 kills and three digs, Eva Waller four points, two aces, three kills, 23 assists and six digs and Ava Marks two points, five kills and 13 digs.

West Branch also won the junior varsity match, 17-25, 25-15, 25-23.

For the Clippers, Briley Schmidt had 11 points, four aces, three kills, seven assists and 12 digs; Annabelle Church 12 kills, two points, seven assists and 12 digs; Riley Fisk six points, five kills and five digs; and Keegan Reynolds two assists and 15 digs.

Columbiana is scheduled to host Heartland Christian today, while West Branch entertains Canfield on Saturday.

LORDSTOWN 3, LEETONIA 0

LORDSTOWN -- Lordstown won its third straight matching by sweeping Leetonia in three games Wednesday.

The Red Devils improve to 11-8, while the Bears drop to 0-20. The Bears have won three games this season.

Leetonia will host Wellsville on Thursday.

MARTINS FERRY 3, OAK GLEN 0

NEW MANCHESTER, W.Va. -- State-ranked Martins Ferry rolled over Oak Glen, 25-14, 25-18, 25-17, Wednesday.

Martins Ferry has lost only five games all season and improves to 19-0. The Purple Riders are ranked second in the Ohio Division V state poll behind Coldwater.

Oak Glen moves to 21-9 overall.

For the Golden Bears, Mikalyn Balch had nine kills and seven assists, Naomi Ayers seven kills, Caetlyn Six two kills, Audrina May two kills, Bryson Adams 10 assists and four digs, Kendall Six 11 digs and Keira Vick five digs.

Martins Ferry also won the junior varsity match, 25-17, 23-25, 25-23.

For Oak GLen, Kaia Parish had 10 kills, Elynn Rogers six kills and 20 assists, Theresa Robinson six assists and four aces and Katie Kliner 11 digs.
