Big wins for West Branch, Salem girls

BELOIT -- The West Branch girls soccer team improved to 15-0, breaking the school record for regular-season wins, with a 2-0 victory over Youngstown Mooney on Tuesday.

Elli Colian scored a goal to set the school record for 67 points in a season. Emma Klingensmith also scored a goal. Caiden Schroeder and Cambrie Nezbeth had assists.

It was the 12th shutout of the season for the Warriors.

Mooney drops to 7-5-2.

West Branch also won the junior varsity match, 4-0., as Carleigh Sanor scored two goals. Addison Lee and Kelly Ewing also had goals. Bri Clark and Iris Nezbeth had assists. Addi Dudley made two saves in goal.

West Branch will play at Dover on Monday.

SALEM 1, BEAVER 0

CALCUTTA -- Chaya Murray got behind the defense and scored the winning goal in the second half off an Ava Lee assist as Salem beat Beaver Local, 1-0, in girls soccer action Tuesday.

Layla Hewitt made four saves in goal for the shutout.

Salem improves to 10-5-1, while Beaver Local was shut out for the second straight match to drop to 10-4.

The Quakers will travel to Newton Falls at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Beavers are scheduled to host Wheeling Linsly next Tuesday.

SALEM 3, BEAVER 1

CALCUTTA -- It was a sweep for the Salem soccer teams on Tuesday against Beaver Local. Following the Quaker girls 1-0 win over Beaver Local, the boys upended the Beavers for a 3-1 win at Pastore Field.

Salem is 9-4-1, while Beaver Local fell to 11-2-1.

Beaver will play at Carrollton on Thursday. Salem will be at Boardman on Saturday.

MINERVA 3, UNITED 0

MINERVA -- Kiptin Kiko scored goals in both halves and added an assist as Minerva beat United, 3-0, in boys soccer action Tuesday.

The Lions won for the fourth time in five matches to improve to 8-7. The Eagles move to 8-6-1.

“Tonight we played the best game we have played all season,” Minerva coach Tyler Stewart said. “It was a very physical game tonight with 24 fouls.

Caleb Kiko also scored a goal. Colton Fetty and Tyson Fetty had assists.

United hosts Rootstown on Thursday.

UNITED 5, CRESTVIEW 2

COLUMBIANA -- Elli Powers had three goals and one assist and Bella Thompson two goals in leading United past Crestview, 5-2, in girls soccer action Monday.

Hailey Chuck collected three assists. Cheyenne Chuck made four saves in goal.

United (10-3-2) plays at Springfield today.
