Beavers battle with one of the state’s best

NILES -- The Niles girls soccer team is expected to make a run at a Div. IV state championship this season and the Beaver Local Beavers got an example first hand how dominating the Red Dragons can be in a 4-0 loss on Saturday at Bo Rein Stadium.
Niles is 11-0 having outscored opponents 91-4. The Red Dragons are ranked No. 1 in Ohio in Div. IV by MaxPreps.
Madelyn Yost scored twice for the Red Dragons and had an assist. Kherington Stanford added a goal and assist. Naomi Sheesley also added a goal.
Beaver Local, a Div. IV state semifinalist last season, fell to 10-3. The Beavers are ranked 23rd in Div. III by MaxPreps.
Beaver Local hosts Salem Tuesday then has a home game against Wheeling Linsly on Oct. 13 followed by a trip to Alliance on Oct. 14 to close the regular season.
Girls soccer tournament draws are set for Sunday.
WEST BRANCH 1, REVERE 1
BELOIT -- West Branch’s boys soccer team drew Revere 1-1 on Saturday to snap a five-game winning streak.
Mason Thomas had West Branch’s lone goal.
The Warriors are 10-2-1 and are ranked 13th in Div. IV by MaxPreps. Revere (10-3-1) is the 11th best team in Div. III according to MaxPreps.
West Branch hosts undefeated Champion at 7 p.m. today.
VOLLEYBALL
STEUBENVILLE CC 3, LISBON 0
LISBON -- Steubenville Catholic Central took out Lisbon 25-23, 25-21, 25-18 on Saturday in prep volleyball action.
For the Devils (5-13), Alayna Householder had eight kills and seven digs. Addison Anderson added six kills. Gionna Leniger had five kills and three blocks. Ariel Smith had 10 digs. Bridget Newbold had 19 assists.
Lisbon hosts United Wednesday.
The Blue Devils won the jayvee match, 19-25, 25-13, 25-7. Gracyn Owens had nine kills, four aces, 12 assists and eight digs.
Rowan Gloeckner added seven kills. Carrie Hager had five kills as did Kyler Malone.
