EAST LIVERPOOL -- The East Liverpool volleyball team snapped Salem’s six-match winning steak, 25-19, 26-24, 25-13, Saturday at the Potter Fieldhouse.
East Liverpool improves to 7-1 heading into today’s match at Harrison Central.
Salem moves to 9-2 and will travel to West Branch on Tuesday for a battle of Eastern Buckeye Conference unbeaten.
Kendall Martin led the East Liverpool attack with 17 kills. Addie Jones added six kills, Addi Smith four kills and Addison Boyle three kills. Cameron Conley collected four aces and 19 assists, Peyton Tanner three aces and nine assists and Hailey Board and Taylor Loedding each served three aces.
Salem won the junior varsity match, 25-22, 25-17.
For the Potters, Katelyn Reeder had six kills, Ella Gunning seven assists and Kennedy Talbot two aces and two kills.
SOUTHERN 3, EDISON 0
RICHMOND -- Southern rallied late in the first two games and beat Edison, 26-24, 27-25, 25-13, in volleyball action Saturday.
Both teams are 4-5 on the season.
Delaney Beadnell had 10 points and 10 assists and Eliana Forbes seven points and 12 assists for Southern. Payton Davison contributed eight points, Katie Kellogg 10 kills, Kiah Sloan six kills and two blocks, Kalayah Crute five kills and four blocks, Natalie Lopez five kills, Addy Martin 11 digs and Maddie Tsesmilles four digs.
Edison won the junior varsity match, 26-24, 25-14. For Southern, Payton Davison had nine points, Mary Beadnell four kills and Gemma Jackson three points and two kills.
Southern will play at Toronto today.
OAK GLEN AT BRIDGEPORT
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- The Oak Glen volleyball went 1-3 in the Bridgeport tournament on Saturday.
The Golden Bears lost to Herbert Hoover, 27-26, 25-18. Mattie Carney had five kills and Naomi Ayers three kills for Oak Glen. Mikalyn Balch had eight assists and 11 digs, Bryson Adams four assists, Keira Vick 13 digs, Kendall Six six digs and Ellie Smith four digs.
Oak Glen lost to James Monroe, 25-16, 25-19. Zoey Caughey had seven kills, Naomi Ayers six kills, Bryson Adams nine assists, Mikalyn Balch eight assists, Kendall Six six digs and Layla Skavenski three digs.
Oak Glen defeated Robert C Byrd, 25-13, 25-19. Mattie Carney had five kills, Naomi Ayers four kills, Mikalyn Balch nine assists, Bryson Adams four assists, Ellie Smith three digs and Kylie Robinson two digs.
Then Oak Glen lost to Capitol, 24-26, 25-21, 15-9. Naomi Ayers seven kills, Caetlyn Six six kills, Mikalyn Balch 10 assists, Bryson Adams seven assists, Keira Vick 11 digs, Kendall Six four digs, Layla Skavenski three digs and Katie Kliner three digs.
Oak Glen hosts Weir on Tuesday on Teacher Appreciation Night.
