LISBON — The United Eagles are playing like champions.

United clinched a second straight Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference baseball title outright with a 12-1 win over Lisbon in five innings Thursday.

It is the Eagles’ third EOAC title and seventh league title overall.

Three Lisbon errors on United’s first six batters gave the Eagles an early 2-0 lead and senior pitcher Kadin Schonauer took over from there.

Schonauer scattered eight singles with seven strikeouts and four walks. He stranded five Lisbon runners on base in the first three innings to allow the Eagles to pull away.

United improves to 15-6 overall and finishes EOAC play at 11-1. The Eagles have won 24 of their last 26 league games.

Lisbon drops to 12-9 and 8-2 in the EOAC. The Blue Devils — who were seeking their first league title since 2017 — dropped a 10-0 decision in six innings to United on April 17 in the first game on the artificial turf at Eastwood Field in Niles.

Quentin Taylor scored three runs for the Eagles. Schonauer, Wyatt Swanson, Cavan Jackson and Carter Simmons all added two runs.

Ryan Miller and Mason Everly each drove in two runs.

The game was decided in the first inning. With one out, Schonauer singled and went to second on an error. Taylor was hit by a pitch and Swanson hit a grounder that resulted in a throwing error that scored Schonauer.

Cavan Jackson walked and Carter Simmons hit a fly ball that was dropped, scoring Taylor for a 2-0 lead.

In the third, Jackson led off with a single down the left field line and Simmons reached base on a throwing error. Everly hit a two-run single for a 4-0 lead.

The Blue Devils got their only run in the fifth inning as Brady Carpenter drove in Mason Jones.

Ashton Hinchliffe had three hits for Lisbon. Capernter and Jones each had two.

Carpenter started and took the loss. He gave up eight runs on six hits with six strikeouts and four walks.

Bryce Esarey gave up four runs without getting an out and Devin Kelly pitched 2/3 of an inning and walked two.

Both teams are scheduled to play today with United at East Liverpool and Lisbon at Leetonia.
