Salem splits Saturday double dip

SALEM — Aniya Jones had a home run and four RBIs as Salem soared past Jackson-Milton 9-4 on Saturday.

Morgane Blaine added three hits, while Morgan Colian had a double and an RBI. Shae Burkhart had a hit and two RBIs.

Blaine got the win in the circle with five strikeouts and no walks in seven innings.

Gilmour Academy 18, Salem 1

SALEM — Gilmour Academy dominated Salem 18-1 in five innings on Saturday.

Hadley Carlisle had a double and single for Salem. Morgane Blaine took the loss with a walk and three strikeouts over three innings.

Salem is 5-9.

Draws set

Beaver Local’s girls softball team earned the No. 1 seed in the Div. IV East District brackets on Sunday during the tournament draw.

Beaver Local is 19-3 and was placed in the East 1 district bracket. No. 2 seed John Glenn, also 19-3, chose to go in Beaver Local’s bracket. The two teams would play each other if they reached the district final.

Only four teams in the draw were over .500. Meadowbrook (15-6) was the third seed and chose to go into the East 2 district. Fourth seed Harrison Central is the other team that is over .500.

Beaver Local will host No. 15 seed Philo at 5 p.m. on May 12 in the sectional opener. The winner of that game would meet the winner of No. 8 Minerva and No. 9 River View in the district semifinal.

In other divisional draws, Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference co-leader Columbiana (12-4) led area Div. V teams with a 15th seed in the 27-team district.

In Div. VI, EOAC co-leader United (13-5) was the 11th seed in its 31-team district.

In Div. VII, Lisbon (5-12) earned the highest area seed at No. 14 out 23 teams.
