Rebels trying to graduate to districts

COLUMBIANA — The Crestview baseball team couldn’t beat the rain Friday and the Rebels have to wait to beat Beachwood.
The 10th-seeded Rebels took a 9-8 lead over the 17th-seeded Bison before rain suspended the Division V sectional game entering the top of the sixth inning.
The game is scheduled to resume at Crestview High School at 3 p.m. Sunday.
Crestview couldn’t play Saturday because graduation is at 7 p.m.
The Rebels scored in all five innings Friday, but the Bison got back into the game with a five-run fourth inning.
Grant Snyder collected three hits with a double and Kyle Booth had two hits, including a bases-loaded double in the second inning that gave the Rebels a 4-1 lead.
Eli Cope added two hits and two runs. Caleb Booth and Braidy Willis scored two runs apiece.
Isaac Unkefer pitched the first four innings, giving up eight runs, four earned, on seven hits. He struck out seven and walked one.
Kyle Booth went one inning and walked one.
Beachwood hit three home runs — Nico Medina hit a solo shot in the second inning, Highly Devine had an inside-the-park home run in the third that scored two runs and Eli Ward had a two-run homer in the fourth inning.
Highly had two hits and three RBIs. Gavi Lappen collected two hits, two RBIs and two runs.
The winner on Sunday will play at ninth-seeded United in the district semifinal Wednesday.

Rootstown at Columbiana
COLUMBIANA — Columbiana and Rootstown got to the top of the sixth before rain forced a suspension of a Div. VI sectional baseball tournament game on Friday at Firestone Park.
The Rovers led 3-1 with no outs in the top of the sixth.
A two-run homer by RJ Soika and George Luli RBI single gave 19th seeded Rootstown a 3-1 lead in the second.
Avery Young scored on an error during a base stealing attempt in the third for Columbiana.
Young led the 17th seeded Clippers with a double.
Ethan Lehnerd went the first four innings for the Clippers with four walks and no strikeouts.
Young threw one inning of relief with a walk and one strikeout.
No date was set for the resumption of the game as of Friday evening.

Leetonia 12, Southington 11
SOUTHINGTON — Leetonia’s baseball team pulled out a 12-11 win over Southington in a Div. VII sectional game Friday.
For the Bears, Jason King had three hits including a double with an RBI. Chase Bondi added a single, triple and three RBIS. Gray Henderson had two hits and two RBIs. Jeremiah Falk had three RBIs.
Samuel Frank got the win with two strikeouts in one inning of relief.
Leetonia, the 18th seed, will travel to top-seeded McDonald on Wednesday for a district semifinal. The Bears are 7-12.
