Quakers own the field

AUSTINTOWN — Salem’s girls track team had a field day on Saturday at the 45th Optimist meet at Austintown Fitch Falcon Stadium.

The Quakers won three of the four field events with Madolyn Gorby taking top honors in the high jump (5 feet 2 inches), Chaya Murray in the long jump (15-11) and Maddy Andres in the shot put (36-8 1/4).

Peyton Colbert was second in the high jump (5-0), while Andres had a fourth place showing in the discus (108-6).

Salem’s boys also did well in field events with Lucas Adams taking first in the long jump (21-3.5) and second in the high jump (6-0). Colt Stockman captured second in the discus (156-1) and Hunter Owen was fourth in the shot put (49-7 3/4).

Columbiana also competed in the meet with Madelyn Jackson leading the way for the girls with a fourth place finish in the 800-meter run (2:33.7) and Kaitlin Benner taking fourth in the 1600 (5:52.33).

Salem’s girls finished third overall with 50 points. Revere won with 73 points.

In the boys’ competition, Salem took sixth overall with 34 points. Wadsworth won with 110.5 points.
