Miller powers Lions past Clippers

COLUMBIANA — Hudson Miller went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to lift Heartland Christian past Columbiana, 7-4, Thursday at Firestone Park.
Miller had a two-run hit to deep center in the second inning and an RBI double in the sixth inning.
Jacob Gehring had RBI singles in the first and fourth innings.
Heartland improves to 9-11 on the season. Columbiana lost its fifth in a row to drop to 9-14.
Evan Farrell went the distance for the victory. He gave up six hits with two strikeouts and five walks. He also scored two runs.
Grant Miller added two hits to the winning cause.
Columbiana scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game 3-3.
Sam Inboden drove in two runs with a triple to deep right field and he scored on Nick Klindworth’s groundout.
Heartland took the lead for good in the fourth inning when Goehring singled to bring Farrell home.
The Lions scored two more runs in the sixth inning for a 6-3 lead. Miller doubled in Paul Bender and Miller eventually scored on an error.
Ethan Lehnerd started and took the loss for the Clippers, giving up four runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings. He struck out five and walked four.
Sam Inboden gave up two runs, one earned, on one hit with five strikeouts and one walk in 2 1/3 innings. Dreenen Bosela pitched one inning, giving up one run with two walks.
Heartland will play at Liberty on Saturday, while Columbiana travels to West Branch on Monday.

Lisbon 15, Leetonia 1
LEETONIA — Mason Jones threw a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts and two walks as Lisbon took down Leetonia 15-1 in five innings on Thursday.
Jones also had two singles and two RBIs.
Henderson took the loss for the Bears with two strikeouts and five walks over 2 1/3 innings.
Lisbon is 14-8 and 9-2 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference. The Devils are at Heartland on Monday.
Leetonia fell to 6-11 and 3-8. Leetonia will host Columbiana on Tuesday.

Springfield 18, East Palestine 1
UNITY — Springfield Local dominated East Palestine for an 18-1 win in five innings on Thursday.
Shane Newman took the loss for the Bulldogs as he went 1 1/3 innings with five walks and a strikeout.
Kealin Simon had the only Bulldog hit.
East Palestine (10-10) will be at Beaver Local today.

United 16, East Liverpool 5
EAST LIVERPOOL — Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference champion United defeated East Liverpool 16-5 on Thursday.
For United, Quentin Taylor had two singles, a double and three RBIs. He was also the winning pitcher with 12 strikeouts and five walks in five innings. Mason Everly added three hits including a double with three RBIs. Kadin Schonauer had a single, double and an RBI.
For East Liverpool, Dre Brown had a single, double and three RBIs. Braden Duke and Carstin Suznevich had two hits each. Elliott Fitch had a double as well.
Duke was the losing pitcher with five walks and a strikeout in 1 1/3 innings.
United is 16-6 and hosts Akron Manchester in a tournament game on May 22.
East Liverpool fell to 4-21 and is at Struthers today.

Howland 6, Salem 5
WARREN — An eighth inning walk with bases loaded gave Howland a 6-5 win over Salem on Thursday.
For Salem, Braydon Van Dyne had a single and double. Jaxson Douglas added two hits and an RBI.
Douglas was the losing pitcher as he walked three of the four batters he faced.
Salem is 2-18 and hosts South Range at 7 p.m. today.

Lakeview 13, West Branch 10
BELOIT — Lakeview outlasted West Branch 13-10 on Thursday in regular season baseball action.
For West Branch, Jeremiah Thomas had four hits including a double with two RBIs. Gavyn Webb had a single, double and four RBIs. Drake Stryffeler had a single and triple with an RBI.
Webb was the losing pitcher with one strikeout and no walks in two innings.
