Lisbon battles Dalton into 12th inning

LISBON — Freshman Mason Jones had three hits and drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning as 10th-seed Lisbon beat 12th-seeded Dalton, 3-2, in a Division VI sectional final Monday.

Paxton Henthorne had a leadoff single for the Blue Devils. Pinch-runner Brady Lively went to second on a Nick Peruchetti sacrifice.

Bryce Esarey followed with a one-out single, putting runners on first and third. Esarey went to second on indifference.

Jones delivered the game-winning RBI single to left field.

Logan Sturgeon got the victory in 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed one hit and one walk with five strikeouts.

Lisbon starter Brady Carpenter went the opening 7 1/3 innings , allowing two unearned runs, on seven hits. He struck out five and walked two.

It was a matchup of league runners-up and got rained out Friday.

Lisbon (15-10) finished second behind United in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference, while Dalton (11-10) was second behind Waynedale in the Wayne County Athletic League.

Lisbon will play at sixth-seeded LaBrae at 5 p.m. Wednesday. LaBrae is 17-5, including wins of 7-0 and 15-1 against Crestview in MVAC Grey Tier play.

Most of the scoring was done in the first inning as Dalton went up 2-0 on Max Steiner’s two-out single.

Lisbon scored in the bottom of the first as Ashton Hinchliffe doubled and came home on a Sturgeon single.

The Blue Devils tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth. Sturgeon singled and Carpenter reach on an error. A two-out single by Aiden Myers scored Sturgeon with the tying run.

Steiner and Reece Lecon each had two hits for the Bulldogs.

Connor More took the loss, giving up one earned run and four hits in the final five innings. He struck out six and walked none.

Grady Hirst started and went 6 1/3 innings. He gave up two runs, one earned, on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

CRESTVIEW 9, BEACHWOOD 8

COLUMBIANA — Kyle Booth picked up where he left off Friday.

Booth pitched two hitless innings in relief Monday as 10th-seeded Crestview held off 17th-seeded Beachwood, 9-8, in a Division V sectional final.

The game had been suspended by rain with Crestview leading 9-8 entering the sixth inning Friday. The game was rained out on Sunday and finally completed on Monday.

Crestview won its fourth in a row to improve to 16-10. The Rebels will play at ninth-seeded United on Monday.

Kyle Booth totaled three hitless and scoreless innings in relief. He walked three.

The Bison got runners on first and second with one out in the top of the sixth inning, but Booth got out of the inning. The Bison also had a two-out walk in the seventh, but it did no harm.

Isaac Unkefer pitched the first four innings Friday, giving up eight runs, four earned, on seven hits. He struck out seven and walked one.

Grant Snyder had three hits with a double for the Rebels and Kyle Booth had two hits, including a bases-loaded double in the second inning.

Greyson George drove in two runs.

Five of Beachwood’s runs came on three home runs — by Nicol Medina and Eli Ward and an inside-the-park homer by Highly Devine.

Devine had two hits and three RBIs and Gavi Lappen two hits, two RBIs and two runs.

ALLIANCE 12, HEARTLAND 1

ALLIANCE — Alliance’s baseball team beat Heartland Christian 12-1 in six innings on Saturday in a regular-season game.

Evan Farrell had two hits for Heartland.

Christian Hamilton was the losing pitcher with two walks and three strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.

Heartland (11-14) hosts Bristol in a Divistion VII district semifinal at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
