Branch, Leetonia bow out of tournament

CANAL FULTON — Courtney Boggs threw a one-hitter with eight strikeouts and a walk as Northwest blanked West Branch 7-0 in a Div. IV sectional contest on Thursday.

Sara Schmidt had West Branch’s lone hit.

Ellie Tucker had eight strikeouts and two walks in six innings for West Branch.

West Branch, the 16th seed, is 9-13.

No. 14 seed Northwest will travel to No. 11 seed Laurel on Tuesday for a district semifinal.

Southington 17, Leetonia 1

SOUTHINGTON — Southington eliminated Leetonia on Thursday in a Div. VII sectional opener.

Carli Simms and Payton Gray singled for Leetonia.

Laniya Dubose was the losing pitcher with eight walks and no strikeouts in three innings.

Leetonia, the 19th seed, falls to 1-20.

Southington, the 6th seed, will host No. 9 Middlefield Cardinal on Monday in the district semifinal.

Salem 21, Warren Harding 1

SALEM — Lacie Gainor had three hits and two RBIs as Salem’s softball team bested Warren Harding 21-1 in five innings on Thursday in regular season action.

Morgan Colian added two hits and two RBIs for the Quakers. Aniya Jones had a double and two RBIs.

Colian was the winning pitcher as she went four innings with six strikeouts and no walks.

Salem is 7-13 and hosts Struthers in a Div. IV district tournament game today.

Jackson-Milton 8, Columbiana 5

COLUMBIANA — Jackson-Milton handed Columbiana an 8-5 loss in a regular season contest on Thursday.

Landry Smith had a single and double with two RBIs for the Clippers. Brooke McKim added two hits and an RBI, while Alexis Sperling had a double.

Reagan Bell took the loss with two strikeouts and no walks in three innings.

Columbiana is 13-9 and has lost six out of its last seven. The Clippers are at Jackson-Milton today.
