ST. CLAIRSVILLE — East Liverpool senior Maddox Roach and Beaver Local junior Landon Wheatley are trying to stand on the podium at the state track and field meet again this year.

The Beaver Local boys relays teams will be looking to join them there.

Three Beaver Local relay teams ran season-best times on the way to Division III district titles Saturday at St. Clairsville High School.

Luke Rettos, Nolan Irving and Zachary Redman ran on all three winning relay teams and were joined by Richie Wyse in the 400 meters (44.15 seconds); Jack Nocella in the 800 meters(1:32.14); and Luke Warrick in the 1600 meters (3:28.51).

Wheatley won the high jump by clearing 6-foot-1. He was the only one to go higher than 5-10. Wheatley finished sixth at state last year.

They helped give Beaver Local a third-place finish in the boys team standings with 82 points.

Roach ran away with district victories in the 1600 run (4:21.68) and 800 run (1:54.90). He was seventh at state in the 1600 last year.

East Liverpool sophomore Meshach Harris also won the 300 hurdles (40.99).

The top four in each event advance to the Muskingum University regional meet on Thursday and Saturday.
