Rhodes stars for North

POWELL — Crestview senior Addison Rhodes was at the top of her game in the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association’s prestigious North-South All-Star Game on Friday night.

Rhodes scored 22 points in 17 minutes with six rebounds and two assists in leading the North to a 98-73 victory at Olentangy Liberty High School.

She shot 8-of-12 from the field, including 6-of-9 from three points range. She will be playing this fall at NCAA Division I Fairfield (Conn.) University.

Norwayne’s Ava Maibach was named the MVP after shooting 10-of-12 from the field for a game-high 23 points, eight rebounds and three assists. She will play volleyball at NCAA Division II Cedarville University.

Dayton recruit tops boys

POWELL — Margaretta senior Julian Washington had a game-high 27 points and 12 rebounds in leading the North to a 122-111 win over the South on Friday night at Olentangy Liberty High School.

Washington, the game’s MVP who will play at the University of Dayton, shot 12-of-17 from the field.

Alliance’s JR Jackson added three points, two rebounds and one assist and LaBrae’s Austin Rowe had three rebounds and one assist.

For the South, Maysville’s Gator Nichols, who is heading to NCAA Division II Ohio Dominican, collected 12 points, six rebounds and three assists.

North prevails in Massillon

MASSILLON — Youngstown Mooney’s Ike Lake hauled in the game-tying touchdown pass at the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association North-South Game on Saturday.

The Division IV-VII ended in a 14-14 tie in overtime as the South blocked an 18-yard field goal attempt on the final play at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium.

Lake scored on a touchdown catch from Cleveland Glenville’s Arvell Nelson early in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 14-14. Kirtland’s Jake LaVerde threw a 58-yard touchdown pass to Columbus Grove’s Trevon Baxter for the North’s first score late in the second quarter.

Salem’s Cletis Monroy, West Branch’s Jeremiah Thomas and Zach Coffee and Minerva’s Sean Scott were on the North team.

In the Division I-III game, the North also won 24-3.
