Salem loses late lead as Marlington rallies

Marlington 12, Salem 4
SALEM — Marlington scored nine runs in the final two innings and rallied past Salem, 12-4, in Eastern Buckeye Conference play Tuesday.
The Quakers took a 4-0 lead in the second inning before the Dukes put runs on the board in each of the last five innings.
Marlington improves to 10-4 overall and 5-2 in the EBC, tied with Minerva for second place. Minerva handed Alliance its first league loss, 2-0, Tuesday and will host Alliance today.
Salem lost its 13th in a row to drop to 1-14 overall and 0-7 in the EBC. The Quakers will play at Marlington today.
Tyler Walder went 3-for-5 with a dobule and three RBIs and Cole Jones was 3-for-4 with three runs scored for the Dukes. Logan Smith doubled and singled, Matthew Baldwin had two hits and Landon Hawthorne doubled.
Brook Woods went the distance for the victory. After giving up four runs on three hits and four walks in the first two innings, he shut out the Quakers over the last five innings on three hits and one walk. He totaled nine strikeouts.
Marshall Boron had two hits and an RBI and Cameron Martin scored two runs for the Quakers.
Salem’s first two batters, Martin and Ben Kuboff, each singled and Vinnie Yannucci walked to load the bases with two outs in the first inning. Boron hit a high bouncer to third, scoring Martin for the first run. Jaxson Douglas and Brendon Rocha walked with the bases loaded to give the Quakers a 3-0 lead.
Martin scored again in the second inning, leading off with a walk, stealing second and coming home on Brayden Van Dyne’s single into left field.
Kuboff took the loss, giving up six runs, five earned, on six hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six with no walks. He retired nine of the first 10 batters, allowing only a single by Harrison Selzer to lead off the third inning. Selzer went to second on a pitch in the dirt and third on a balk before scoring on a fielder’s choice for the Dukes’ first run. Van Dyne also gave up six runs, five earned, on six hits with two walks in 2/3 of an inning. Rocha walked one in 2/3 of an inning.

Lisbon 14, Chaney 0
LISBON — Lisbon took care of business with a 14-0 win over Chaney on Tuesday.
Bryce Esarey led the charge with a single, triple and three RBIs. Ashton Hinchliffe had two hits and an RBI. Aiden Myers chipped in a hit and two RBIs.
Mason Jones was the winning pitcher with eight strikeouts and a walk in four innings.
Lisbon (9-7) hosts Southern today.

Crestview 8, Garfield 1
GARRETTSVILLE — Crestview swept the season series from Garfield with an 8-1 win on Tuesday in Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference play.
Kyle Booth had two doubles, a single and an RBI for the Rebels. Landon Hildreth added two hits and four RBIs.
Booth was also the winning pitcher with five walks and four strikeouts in six innings.
Crestview (11-4 overall and 6-3 in the MVAC) is scheduled to host East Liverpool today.

Heartland 5, Lowellville 2
STRUTHERS — Jacob Goehring and Paul Bender socked doubles to lead Heartland to a 5-2 win over Lowellville on Tuesday at Cene Park.
Evan Farrell had 11 strikeouts for the Lions through seven innings.
Heartland (6-8) hosts Youngstown East today.

Girard 10, East Palestine 0
GIRARD — Kaiden Clare threw a no-hitter with seven strikeouts and just two walks as Girard blanked East Palestine 10-0 on Tuesday.
East Palestine’s Shane Newman took the loss with six walks and three strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings.
East Palestine (5-8) is at Western Reserve today.

WEIRTON, W.Va. — Weir High produced 10 hits in a 10-2 win over East Liverpool on Tuesday.
Elliott Fitch led the Potters with a double.
Donovan Shallcross took the loss with three walks and no strikeouts in two innings.

Carrollton 14, West Branch 4
BELOIT — West Branch gave up 13 runs in the first inning in a 14-0 loss to Carrollton on Tuesday.
Grady Close had a double and triple with an RBI for Branch. Jeremiah Thomas had two hits and two RBIs.
Thomas was also the losing pitcher as he lasted seven batters with seven earned runs and two walks.
West Branch slipped to 5-9 and 1-6 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference.
The two teams will play again today at Carrollton.
