Curtis matches state record by belting four home runs

CALCUTTA — Sophomore Brylee Curtis bashed a state record four home runs and had six RBIs in Beaver Local’s 12-1 win over Edison in five innings on Tuesday.

According to records kept by the Ohio High School Athletic Association, Curtis is the 11th Ohio girls softball player to hit four homers in a game. Lisbon freshman Justyce Vrable also did that against Columbiana in 2019.

Curtis has six of Beaver Local’s 18 home runs this season. She leads the team with 26 RBIs and is second with a .431 batting average.

Addie Thurik also homered for Beaver Local while adding a double and three RBIs. Mya Anderson had a double, two singles and three RBIs.

Thurik was the winning pitcher with nine strikeouts and a walk in five innings. She is 8-2 on the season with a 2.20 ERA.

Beaver Local is 14-3 on the season and has won nine out of the last 10 games.

The Beavers lead the OVAC Class 4A standings, while Edison was second.

The cut-off date for the tournament is Friday.

Beaver Local hosts Martins Ferry today.
