Beavers sweep East Liverpool

EAST LIVERPOOL — After several rainouts this season, the Beaver Local and East Liverpool baseball teams were able to finally play each other on Saturday.
The Beavers took both games with a 14-2 win in the first game, followed by a 7-3 win in the next one.
In the first game, Braxton Hickman had a two singles, a double and four RBIs for Beaver Local. He also was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts and three walks in the complete game effort.
Jett Johnson added two doubles and four RBIs for the Beavers.
Elliott Fitch took the loss with five walks and three strikeouts in three innings.
Carstin Suznevich had two hits and an RBI for the Potters.
Johnson continued his strong day at the plate in the second game with a single, double and an RBI.
AJ Bowser was the winning pitcher with 11 strikeouts and six walks over 4 2/3 innings.
Suznevich had a hit and two RBIs for the Potters.
Donovan Shallcross took the loss with two strikeouts and a walk over four innings.
Beaver Local is 9-6 and is at United on Tuesday.
East Liverpool is 2-13 and hosts Oak Glen on Tuesday.

Girard 17, Columbiana 5
COLUMBIANA — Columbiana’s tough luck weekend continued with a 17-5 loss to Girard on Saturday at Firestone Park.
A day after losing an extra inning thriller to Crestview at Eastwood Field, the Clippers could not contain the Indians.
Drennen Bosela led Columbiana with a double and was also the losing pitcher as he gave up three earned runs with four walks and two strikeouts over an inning.
Columbiana (5-7) will be at Southern today.

Campbell 2
UNITY — Heartland Christian picked up a 12-2 win over Campbell Memorial in six innings on Saturday.
Evan Farrell had a single, double and two RBIs for the winners.
Alex Hamilton was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts and two walks over 5 1/3 innings.
Campbell walked six and had seven errors.
Heartland is 3-6 and is at Liberty on Wednesday.

Poland 8, Salem 7
POLAND — Aiden Perry’s RBI single in the eighth inning led Poland to an 8-7 win over Salem on Saturday.
For Salem, Ben Kuboff had a single, double and two RBIs. Bairon Exline had two hits, while Cameron Martin had a double and two RBIs.
Kuboff was the losing pitcher as he went 7 1/3 innings with a walk and five strikeouts.
Salem is 1-10 and will be at Carrollton on Tuesday.

Southern 4
BRIDGEPORT — Bridgeport handled Southern Local 24-4 in five innings on Saturday.
Landen Heffner, Mason Pitts, Jack Pitts and TJ Homan had singles for the Indians.
Heffner took the loss with two walks, no strikeouts and six earned runs in one inning.
Southern is 3-6 and hosts Columbiana Monday.

Steubenville CC 24, Wellsville 2
WELLSVILLE — Wellsville dropped to 0-9 with a 24-2 loss to Steubenville Central on Saturday at Hammond Park.
Ethan Morris had a double and an RBI for the Tigers.
He was also the losing pitcher with five walks, a strikeout and six earned runs over two innings.
Wellsville is at Steubenville Central on Wednesday.

BELOIT — Drake Stryffeler had an inside-the-park home run to help lead West Branch to a 5-3 win over United on Saturday.
Chase Gee got the win for the Warriors as he struck out two and walked two over 5 1/3 innings.
Carson Wike had a double, single and an RBI for the winners, while Jeremiah Thomas and Nick Scofinsky had two hits each.
Carter Simmons had a double for the Golden Eagles who had just four hits.
Quentin Taylor was the losing pitcher with five strikeouts, three walks and three earned runs over six innings.
West Branch is 4-6 and hosts Alliance on Tuesday.
United fell to 9-2 and will be at Beaver Local on Tuesday.
