Glenville pulls away from West Branch

WOOSTER — Seventh-seeded West Branch pulled within four points in the third quarter, but fourth-seeded Cleveland Glenville pulled away to a 60-45 win in a Division IV district final Friday at Wooster Triway High School.
Glenville (16-9) advances to play fifth-seeded Warrensville Heights (15-9) in the regional semifinals at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Canton Fieldhouse.
Theo Castro led the Tarblooders with a game-high 25 points, four assists and three steals. Arvell Nelson — who threw two second-half touchdown passes for Glenville in the state championship football game victory– added 18 points. Lorenzo Smith had 11 points and nine rebounds.
Gavin Gregory topped West Branch with 18 points, including 7-of-8 from the foul line, and eight rebounds.
Jeremiah Thomas added 10 points, Kasen Weaver had eight points and three assists, Landon Coffee contributed six points and three rebounds and Zach Coffee grabbed five rebounds.
Glenville led 15-10 in the first quarter and 30-22 at halftime. The Tarblooder were up six points through three quarters and opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer and two baskets off turnovers for a 13-point advantage.
Maysville 72, Carrollton 44
URICHSVILLE — All-Ohioan Gator Nichols scored 37 points in leading top-seeded Zanesville Maysville past fifth-seeded Carrollton, 72-44, in a Division IV district final Friday at Claymont High School.
Maysville (24-1) has won 24 straight games as the Panthers are in search of a second straight state championship.
The Panthers will play third-seeded New Concord John Glenn in the regional semifinals at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the ECO Center in St. Clairsville. John Glenn beat second-seeded Cambridge, 66-45, Friday.
Carrollton, coming off a two-point win over Beaver Local on Tuesday, wraps up the season with a 16-8 record. Carrollton finished third in the Eastern Buckeye Conference behind league champion Alliance and West Branch.
