Former Youngstown State basketball coach and East Liverpool native Jerrod Calhoun is on his way to the University of Cincinnati.
Calhoun, 44, reportedly will leave Utah State for a job with his college alma mater.
A report by CBS Sports said Cincinnati and Calhoun have agreed to a six-year deal that will be officially announced later this week.
Calhoun went 55-15 over two seasons at Utah State including two NCAA tournament appearances.
At Youngstown State he went 118-106 from 2017-2024. In his last two seasons with the Penguins he went 46-20 with a regular season Horizon League title in 2023.
Calhoun started his college coaching career as a student assistant under Bob Huggins at Cincinnati in 2003-04. He then had assistant stops at Walsh and West Virginia before leading Fairmont State for five seasons which culminated in an NCAA Div. II runner-up finish in 2017.
Calhoun was born in East Liverpool in 1981 but his family moved to the Cleveland area before he got to high school. In high school, Calhoun was a standout played at Villa Angela-St. Joseph before heading to Cleveland State to play under Rollie Massimino for two seasons.
