HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Six out of seven Oak Glen boys wrestlers scored opening round wins on Thursday at the first day of the West Virginia state wrestling tournament at Mountain Health Arena.

Jordan Tomsic (106 pounds), Kaleb Eckleberry (126), Kayden Spencer (138), Wyatt Wolanski (144) and Noah Schmidt (215) all tallied wins to advance to today’s quarterfinals.

Tomsic, ranked third in the weight class by the West Virginia Wrestling Coaches Association, will take on No. 2 Enoch Quesenberry of Ripley in today’s quarterfinal.

Eckleberry took down No. 5 ranked Tyler Varney of Independence with a pin in four minutes and will meet No. 3 ranked Austin Modrakowski of Ripley in the quarterfinal.

Spencer, a freshman who is ranked ninth, will take on No. 1 ranked Jackson Swingle in his quarterfinal.

Wolanski, a senior who is ranked fourth, won his 47th match of the season in the opener and will take on unranked Tyler Twigg of Elkins in the quarterfinal.

Ware will get fifth-ranked Trenton Fox of Berkeley Springs in his quarterfinal.

Schmidt, ranked second in his weight class, is slated to take on seventh-ranked Cooper Craig in the quarters.
