United does extra in win over Potters
United 53, East Liverpool 44, OT
EAST LIVERPOOL — Maelee Smith’s last-second basket tied the game in regulation and Marin Stryffeler hit a pair of three-pointers in overtime to give United a 53-44 win over East Liverpool at the Potter Fieldhouse on Monday.
Smith totaled 20 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Bella Thompson added 14 points, including key back-to-back three-pointers in the fourth quarter, aong with nine assists.
Stryffeler also had 14 points and Reagan Good had six points and 13 rebounds.
United improves to 12-7 overall, while East Liverpool moves to 6-13.
LaNease Andrews paced the Potters with 16 points. Ava Green had 14 and Meadow O’Rourke 10.
East Liverpool led 14-5 early and 20-11 at halftime. United closed the gap as McKenzie Cope’s defense led to a couple of baskets and a Stryffeler three-pointer tied the score at 28-28 through three quarters.
The Potters went ahead 37-31 with less than three minutes left in the fourth quarter before Thompson made a pair of three-pointers.
An Andrews three-pointer with one minute left in regulation gave the Potters a 42-40 advantage. Smith scored off an inbounds pass under the basket to send the game into regulation.
Stryffeler hit two three-pointers to give the Eagles a 48-44 adantage with 2:30 to play in overtime. A pair of Cope free throws with 5.7 seconds remaining sealed the victory.
United won the two-quarter junior varsity game, 6-2, with Atlee Brinker scoring all of the Eagles’ points.
Both teams will play Thursday with United hosting Wheeling Central and East Liverpool traveling to River.

Lisbon 40, East Palestine 36
EAST PALESTINE — Lisbon overcame 19 missed free throws and got past East Palestine, 40-36, in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play Monday.
Bridgett Newbold and Lylah Brown each scored 11 points for the Blue Devils. Jayden Smyth added 10 points.
Lisbon improves to 11-9 overall and finished league play at 7-7. East Palestine moves to 10-11 and finishes 6-8 in the EOAC.
The Blue Devils led 30-27 after three quarters and 39-33 with about 1 1/2 minutes to play.
Jacklyn Ogle topped East Palestine with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Destiney Burtyk had 10 points and seven rebounds and Cami Kridler added nine points. Violet Glavan and Amara Wilson each grabbed three rebounds.
Lisbon will play at Liberty on Thursday for Hoops at Noon.

CALCUTTA — Bella McLevey hit the game-winning three-pointer with 17 seconds left to lift Beaver Local past Weir, 36-34, Monday.
Mercedes led the Beavers with 13 points, including four three-pointers.
The Beavers improve to 7-12 and will play at Cambridge on Thursday.
Beaver Local also won the two-quarter junior varsity game, 29-9. Katie Miller led the Beavers with 12 points. Jansen Ours added six.

WHEELING, W.Va. — Columbiana’s girls basketball team lost its second straight with a 76-52 loss at Wheeling Central Catholic on Monday in an OVAC consolation tilt.
The Clippers fall to 16-4, while the Knights are 12-4.
Megan Moser had 18 points for the Clippers, while Evy Rapp added 11 points. Sydney Spaite got into the action with 10 points.
Columbiana will host Bellaire in another OVAC consolation game on Thursday.
Cameron 53, Heartland 25
CAMERON, W.Va. — Second-seeded Cameron’s girls basketball team stopped No. 3 seed Heartland 53-25 on Monday in an OVAC Class 1A semifinal.
Cameron will meet No. 1 seed Frontier in the final on Saturday at the ECO Center. Fronter beat Wood County 54-27.
Heartland is 8-10.
Oak Glen 65, Union Local 59
BELMONT — Oak Glen upset Union Local, 65-59, in an OVAC Class 4A semifinal game Monday.
Ella Stewart led the Golden Bears with 24 points, including seven three-pointers.
The Golden Bears improve to 10-5 and will play Indian Creek (15-4) in the championship game at 6 p.m. Saturday at the ECO Center in St. Clairsville.
Indian Creek handed Edison its first loss, 49-47, in the other semifinal Monday.
Union Local drops to 17-3. The Jets will host Edison (17-1) on Thursday.
Youngstown East 47, Leetonia 32
LEETONIA — Youngstown East glided past Leetonia 47-32 on Monday in girls basketball action.
Leetonia fell to 1-16 on the season. Youngstown East is 5-6.
Leetonia is at Campbell on Wednesday.
Madonna 40, Wellsville 19
WELLSVILLE — Weirton Madonna held Wellsville to six points in the second half for a 40-19 win Monday.
Madonna led 22-13 at halftime before pulling away with an 18-6 second-half run.
Madonna improves to 1-10 on the season.
Wellsville drops to 0-19 and will play at Conotton Valley on Thursday.
