Golden Eagles fall short of Valley

HANOVERTON — Valley Christian scored a 32-25 win over United in a low scoring boys basketball contest on Monday.

Abram Ceresna had eight points for the Golden Eagles, 11-11, 7-7 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.

Valley Christian is 11-8 and 10-4 in the EOAC.

Valley won the jayvee game, 41-31. Ryan Miller scored 15 for United.

United hosts Mogadore in the Div. VI sectional tournament on Feb. 26.

Gun show coming up

CHESTER, W.Va. — The Chester-Newell Sportsmen’s Club will hold a gun show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Hancock County Senior Center. Admission is $5. Those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Half of the proceeds benefit the senior center.

Turkey shoots starting soon

CHESTER, W.Va. — The Chester-Newell Sportsmen’s Club will hold turkey shoots starting at 10 a.m. every Sunday starting March 1. An extra benefit shoot will be held on March 21 for a veteran injured in a motorcycle accident. All shoots are $3 per shot. Salem misses out on districts

OAKWOOD — Salem’s boys and girls bowling team competed at the Div. I sectional tournament on Sunday at Roseland Lanes.

Both Quaker teams finished 10th. The Quakers girls totaled 2,593 while the boys had 3,240. Girls district team qualifiers were Nordonia (3,261), Streetsboro (3,214) and Austintown Fitch (3,162).

Salem’s top girl bowler was Brooklyn Herold who took 11th (485). The three individual qualifiers not on a qualifying team were Howland’s Shelby Badanjek (563), Solon’s Kennedy Prelog (554) and Hudson’s Sydney Gallegos (515).

Boys district team qualifiers were Boardman (4,141), Twinsburg (3,883), Austintown Fitch (3,651), Solon (3,614) and Theodore Roosevelt (3,594).

Salem’s Vinnie Yannucci placed 15th with a 559. He lost on a tiebreaker to Kenston’s Josue Holtz for the final individual district qualifying spot. The other individual qualifiers were Ravenna’s Jeriah Miller (600), Kyle Haluch (595), Benjamin Melendez (595) and Jackson Neal (565).

The district tournament is set for Feb. 22 for the boys and Feb. 23 for the girls at Rebman Recreation.
