McKinley reaches 2,000
CANTON — The Canton McKinley boys basketball program became the first in Ohio to reach 2,000 wins.
The Bulldogs beat North Canton Hoover, 64-59, at the Canton Fieldhouse on Tuesday.
Canton McKinley, the Federal League champion, is 17-3 on the season with losses to Akron Hoban, Alliance and Cleveland St. Ignatius. The Bulldogs boys basketball team has a record of 2,000-687-2 (a 74.4 winning percentage) in 126 seasons. According to unofficial OHSAA records, no other team in the state has reached 1,800 victories.
Salem boys play Saturday
SALEM — The Carrollton at Salem boys basketball makeup game will be played Saturday afternoon at Cabas Gymnasium.
The junior varsity will start at noon with varsity to follow at 1:30 p.m.
25 years after Earnhardt
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — “We’ve Lost Dale Earnardt: 25 Years Later,” a new documentary of the 2001 Daytona 500 race that changed NASCAR, will premier on FS1 at 10 p.m. today.
On the final lap of NASCAR’s biggest race, Dale Earnhardt was killed in a crash that stunned the sport. The documentary explores the day NASCAR lost one of its most iconic drivers and its aftermath, not just through competition, but through the emotional, cultural and human impace felt by those inside and beyond the racetrack.
It will be aired after the Daytona Duels.
Heartland boys top TMC
CANFIELD — The Heartland boys and Youngstown Ursuline girls were team champions at the Trumbull Mahoning Columbiana bowling tournament Friday at Amron Lanes.
The Heartland boys won with 3,257 pins and the Ursuline girls had 2,333.
Wellsville finished third in the boys standings with 2,814.
Leaders for Wellsville were Cameron Taylor with a 179 game and three-game series of 521, Madelyn Landess with a 179 game and 502 series and Makayla Landess with a 180 game and 499 series.
