Spartans foil Potters
BOARDMAN — East Liverpool’s boys basketball regular season wrapped up with a 71-40 loss to Boardman on Monday for the Potters’ first losing regular season since 2017-2018.
East Liverpool is 10-12. The Potters are the ninth seeded team in the East District Div. IV brackets and will open sectional play by hosting No. 11 seed Edison (8-13) on Friday night. The winner of that sectional will likely have defending Div. IV state champion Maysville in the district semifinal.
East Liverpool led by two after the first quarter but Boardman was able to right the ship as the Potters were only able to score 12 points combined over the second and third quarters. Javan Dawson and Meshach Harris had nine points each for the Potters.
Boardman, led by former All-Ohioan basketball star and 1997 East Liverpool High School graduate Stephen Flores, finished its regular season at 8-14.
Jerry Smith led the Spartans with 21 points.
